"Wait! What?" Winston splutters. "She tried out to be a Runner!"

Minho nods.

"She's your favorite, isn't she?" Gally spits out, finally exploding. "Can hardly have me showing her around a job because I don't like her! Gotta protect her . She wants to be a Runner? Sure! Just let her try out right away! No one has been allowed to ever before. If she can, why can't we!"

You bite the inside of your cheek, looking down. You hate to admit it, but he does have a point.

"Slim it, Gally," Newt orders, glaring pointedly at him. "Alby and I were hesitant to allow it for exactly this reason, but Minho wanted to give her a chance. As Keeper of the Runners, that's his decision."

"She followed directions and could actually keep up with me," Minho answers the moment Newt finishes. It isn't hard to tell that they had been preparing for a similar uproar. "She caught on quick and was even able to remember some of the way back. For a Greenie, she isn't bad. I want her as a Runner."

You let out a relieved sigh. You might actually have a chance for becoming one.

"Before we decide which job you'll get, which one do you want?" Newt asks you over the noise of the other boys arguing and whispering at Minho's declaration.

"Runner," you say. You don't care if the others will be outraged at what you say or become. They'll get over it.

Their protests and whispered arguments grow louder at you decision, but you refuse to change your mind. You strain to hear what they are saying, but all you can catch are a few words. Eventually, the talking dies down and you find yourself tapping the floor with your foot and clasping then unclasping your hands

Alby turns to face you. "Starting from tomorrow, you're a Runner y'n."
