Where Is She?

The sun slowly peaked through the blinds, immediately hitting my eyes and waking me up. I sat up in my bed, rubbing my eyes as my dad started to shout from down stairs. "Get the hell up, Yn! You're gonna be late for school and it's all your fault!" I glanced over at my alarm clock. 6:30 am.

I quickly got ready for school then snuck out of the house to avoid getting yelled at again by my dad. It was snowing outside and I forgot my jacket but when I  tried to go back inside the door had been locked. I groaned and began my 30 minute walk to school in the freezing cold.

I made it there by 7:00AM but school didn't start for another half hour. I went to the library to warm up and to read.

I greeted the librarian, Karecca, and returned the book I'd just finished reading. I went off to find another one although I'd already read most of the books in here. I found a book called "The Gold Finch", it seemed interesting so I checked it out from the library.

I held the book in one hand as I went over to my normal reading spot which was the window in the back corner of the library. I sat with my back against the wall and my legs slightly bent in front of me.

I got to around chapter 3 when I heard two guys talking which was weird because there was almost never anyone in here besides me.

I tried to look through the bookshelves but I couldn't see them unless i got up, which I was not going to do.

"Where is she?" I heard a guy ask.

"I dont know, I saw her come in here. She comes in here everyday." The other guy responded.

I knew they were talking about me but why? Why were they looking for me? I quietly got up and peaked through the bookshelves. It was Damiar, the most popular guy in school and he was with Kai who was one of my friends. Kai had on his normal Hollister hoodie and black skinny jeans, Damiar wore a random hoodie and black jeans.

"Why do you even want to know where she is?" Kai asked him a little confused.

"It's none of your business." Damiar replied coldly.

"She's my friend and you came to me for help so it is my business." Kai argued

"Well then go away. I dont need your help." Damiar told him and looked around the library.

Kai gave him an annoyed glare but left without saying anything else. I watched him look around the library as I waited for a chance to get the hell out of here. I was getting weird vibes from him right now, I just had a feeling he was up to something bad.

I thought about it and decided to wait until the librarian to come back unless he came over here. If I went out there and he saw me he could easily catch me. If I waited until the librarian came back I could go out there and just keep reading, he couldn't do anything if she was right there.

He started to walk over here but just as he turned the corner I saw KARECCA walk out of the back room with a handful of books. I hesitantly stood up and walked out from my little corner and passed him without sparing him a passing glance or one word.

I sat down in a chair in the open area of the library where the librarian could clearly see me.  I glanced to the side anxiously and saw Damiar was walking over here. I quickly opened my book and started reading, pretending to be distracted by it.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Damiar sit down beside me. I looked over at him confused and he gave me an angry glare. I looked over at Karecca for help, luckily she had been watching us and saw that something was up.

"Y/N can you come help me sort out these books?" She asked, gesturing at the pile of books in front of her. I nodded and quickly got up to go help her with the books.

"Sort them out into different genres in alphabetical order." She told me and I nodded then glanced up from the books at Damiar. He was on his phone now and didn't seem bothered.

I sorted through the books, putting each one in different piles of fantasy, adventure, mystery, sci-fi, etc. I zoned out and started day dreaming while still focused on sorting the books.

Ten minutes later the bell rang, bringing me back to reality. I looked up and made eye contact with Damiar, he didn't get up. I walked over to him to get my backpack from the chair where I'd been sitting.

As I slipped my backpack over my shoulders, he stood up and began to gather his things. I walked out of the library, fidgeting with my fingers as I headed towards math class.

I couldn't help but think about what Damiar could've wanted from me, and why Kai actually helped him find me when he knows that Damiar is always out to get me. Maybe Damiar wanted to apologize. No, he seemed to tense and angry for that, like he could slit my throat if he had the chance. That wouldn't be much of an apology. "Yn!" I snapped out of my thoughts when i heard my name being called.
