Dear journal,
It has been a strange morning. I first awoke with a dull headache and a feeling of dread. Breakfast was assisted with a glass of orange juice and some painkillers. I believe they did the trick, although, I still feel as if something bad is going to happen. My shift started at 8am and this is my first break. 15 minutes. Though, I cannot complain, because most days I barely manage 5 minutes before I am needed. I am sipping tea as I write this.
It was a typical weekday until about 9:15. A man came in complaining of chest pains and he appeared to be struggling to breathe. He had a nasty dry cough and was wheezing as he spoke. The doctor suspected that he had contracted the seasonal flu and had him checked over. I crept into the office and looked at his file. It said 'not witnessed these symptoms since the SARS outbreak'.
That statement has worried me. We have learnt lots about SARS at university and it was not a pleasant disease. Tea has helped to calm me down but the thought is still circulating my mind. Our health services would struggle immensely with another outbreak.
I am currently overhearing a phone call between the doctor and another person. I do not know who it is but it seems to be someone of authority because the doctor is frowning and pacing his office. Pacing is never good.
My headache has returned. I will write again tomorrow.
Yours,
Li
