Diary,
Happy Christmas. Today I have decorated my apartment with fairy lights and streamers, but I do not feel very festive. Hundreds are suspected to have this mysterious new virus and several others have unfortunately passed away. My boss finally let me write about it, although I don't feel as excited about it as I was before. My article did not do well anyway, it just drowned in and amongst the several other news reports swimming around Wuhan.
This virus has jumped from a brilliant journalistic opportunity to a morbid new reality. I no longer feel safe out in the streets. I retrieved my mask that I use for emergencies from the cupboard and now I wear it everywhere I go. It is not known whether they actually work but it is better to be safe than sorry, I suppose.
People are saying that it came from our food markets. I wouldn't be surprised, the animals are kept in awful conditions. I stopped eating dog the minute I found out about the killing process. I think I was about eight years old. Though, admittedly, I have never tried bat. Too many bad things come from bats and I believe that this is a good example.
Maybe China will learn its lesson,
Ju
