Dear journal,
I am running out of hope. We have resorted to treating patients in the hallways. It is virtually impossible to stick to strict hygiene measures when people are packed into such small spaces. The new emergency hospitals are close to being finished but I fear that it is too late. Our own staff are being sent home with raging temperatures, hacking coughs and chest pains. It is only a matter of time before that becomes my fate, yet I refuse to give up. These patients need my help and I will be there for them until I drop to the floor.
We're quickly running out of PPE. Finding gloves is the equivalent to discovering a pot of gold in this place and we've even had reports of thieves stealing boxes of medical masks from the wards. My shifts have quickly gone from 12 to 16 hours. I don't remember the last time I really got to have a snuggle with my cat, and I am even being called in on my days off.
The only way that we have a chance is if the city gets put on lock down. Until then, I worry that the situation will be out of control. The airports are still open which means that transmission is undoubtedly occurring in other countries. I believe that there have also been confirmed cases in Korea, Japan, India and even Australia.
I pray that we get through this,
Li
