"I can't believe I trust you so much," at this point, we're headed toward the underground. "I don't even know your name!"
"Jamie. That's my name. Jamie Collins."
"Okay, Jamie. So what are we going to do?"
"YOU are going to wait."
"I want to help!"
"You can. You can get us some chips. "
"Why can't I help you?"
"It would be a--"
"Paradox," we say in unison.
"Yeah," he says. I am for some reason completely mesmerized.
"Okay, I'll be off. " He says after a bit.
"Wait!"
"What?"
"I haven't got anything to buy it with," I say. I feel like a child.
"Here." He hands me a £20 note. He makes a crazy face to lighten the mood.
"You are so weird. "
"Look who's talking!" He says in return. He smiles. I smile too. The thing happens again. He turns away and heads down. While I'm ordering the chips, I hear a bloodcurdling scream. I panic. The man hands me the chips and I turn to see Jamie rushing towards me. I can't move.
"Postponed," he says solemnly. I can't hold it in. I break down.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought you here."
All I can do is cry. I throw myself into him. At first he seems alarmed, but then he reaches around my waist and hugs me back. He gives me a sense of comfort. We don't move for what seems like forever. Not long enough.
"Come on," with his arm around me, we go back to the machine. After awhile of sitting in the machine, while leaning on Jamie, he talks.
"I suppose you don't really want to talk to me now. "
"Not about what happened."
"Makes sense. So, Jane. What-"
"Can you call me by my nickname? I don't like my name."
"Sure. What is your nickname?"
"Travis."
"That makes sense."
"I guess so."
"You know, Jamie is a nickname. My real name is Jamison Moore Collins."
"That's not bad."
"Well, my adoptive parents call me Jammy, but that's not really relevant. "
"Adoptive?"
"Yeah. I think I was around two when I was put into the home."
"Why would anyone not want you?" At this he smiles. I love his smile. His whole face wrinkles up. I love everything about this man.
