After weeks had passed, the entire huse was silent. According to Sir Anand's calendar, Poorab was about to strike any minute. No matter how much they knew about it, they still couldn't stop the butterflies in the pits of their stomachs, the pounding of their heartbeat racing every second ryan normal, eyes half open at night, anxiously waiting for their attacker. Put of them all, he remained non chalant. Like it didnt mean a thing to him. No one could question him, no one could speak to him. But every day felt like the last time that they would see him.
Every day, Raj would hug him every morning, very tight. Everyday, Sonia would cook his favourite meals. Every day, Dawn made sure to train with him, learn everything from him. And everyday, Dave joined his cousin.
Today was no different. They sat at the dining table in silence, quietly eating the spaghetti and sauce with mushrooms that Sonia had made. The only sounds made were the crickets of the night, the sounds of forks and knives on the ceramic plates and their heavy breathing. For the sake of their plan, they had no one but each other, the secret hideout remained a mystery like it always did, away from Dave. No one trusted him enough until the attack was carried out.
As the night came closing in, each in their respective rooms, weapons in their hands, like the teddy bear we hug for comfort when we want to fall asleep, the weapons were their comfort.
In the middle of the night, as they lay silently in the bed, the atmosphere changed.
Dawn was the first to feel it. Her eyes opened immediately and she sprung out of the bed, clutching the gun in her hand, slowly carefully tiptoeing to her window, she pushed the curtain blind a bit to see what was going on. It was happening. They were here. Beads of sweat started to form on her forehead, her hands became shaky, her heart was literally beating out of it's cage, for some reason, she could not move. She could feel the tears well up in her eyes. She thought she was prepared. But she isnt prepared for another loss. She isnt prepared to go through another mourning. Just then, she heard her door open slowly, in panic she pointed the gun towards the direction of the door, only to find her cousin there, signalling for her to follow him. She nodded, picked up the black hood and wore it over her head. If they found her, if word got out to her uncle, her mission would be incomplete. The plan was simple. Fight. Fight so they dont suspect the back up plan. And run once uncle had created the distraction. How could anyone follow the plan without breaking down. Just as she reached, to take a hold of his hand, they started firing non stop, smashing the glasses, he pulled her close to him and used his body to protect her as they moved to safety, hiding behind the kitchen cupboard. Sonia and Raj managed to meet up with them.
"Where's uncle?" Dawn asked.
"In his room." Sonia answered. Her answer was obvious that she didnt want to talk further about it. No one said anything further until Dawn broke the silence.
"So, what do we do next?"
"Wait for them. Get ready Dawn. " she said putting the hood over her head, so did Raj and Dave. Dawn held onto the gun tight.
I cant be scared now. I need to be strong. It's not your fault if anyone dies today Dawn. It was only out of self defence. The Lord will forgive you. Right?
The question was left unanswered by her. She was gonna address it later. The shooting stopped.
"We split up." Sonia said.
"What?"
"They're coming in now Dawn. So we split. Don't mess this up Dawn. Please. We've worked so hard, we cant crash on the way. This is important to my father. He'll remain disappointed if this fails. I trust you. You'll do fine. I'll go stand by the door at the front entrance, Dave, you go the door at the back, Raj, you stand by father's door, and Dawn, you remain here." Dawn nodded. Everyone split up, and immediately the doors were broken down. Dawn peeped from behind the cupboard to see what was going on. She leaned back in shutting her eyes and holding the gun tighter to her chest. Just then she heard Sonia scream. She peeped again to see them attacking her, beating her up. She sat back down, shutting her eyes tight and the screams increased, Raj and Dave too busy in their own fights.
Oh God i can only do this you.
She got up, allowing anger over take her , with that she picked the knife on the table, gun in her waist she aimed one of them on the shoulder, stabbing him. She removed it kicking him with her right foot, then stabbing the next guy. With that Sonia was able to regain her composure.
Both of them, backs against each other facing the line of bad guys, weapons in both hands, eyes filled with rage, blood flowing faster, hearts beating faster, they launched at them. Simultaneously.
Amongst all that, they heard noise coming from Anand's room.
"Now's the time. Let's go guys." Sonia said, using the bluetooth device in her ear.
"He's in trouble. We need to help him.
"Dont you mess this up for us. Leave immediately!"
"No! I'm going to help him!" Dawn responded throwing off the device.
"Hey! Jesus Christ! Dave please get your sister!" She said. "Raj and i will be waiting."
Dawn was outside his door, ready to launch in, but a hand clasped her mouth, wrapping his muscled arms around her pulling her away from the door. She tried to struggle free, but there was no use. He was stronger than her. She knew who it was. He had the perfume of her cousin. She didnt struggle further. She only started crying, as he pulled her to his chest patting her back and leading her to the secret house.
