Kabanata 20
I sipped my coffee, it isn't hot anymore as I only stared it since it was served earlier.
Tipid akong ngumiti, nahihiya.
Yohan's Mom seemed she didn't understand a thing we are talking about so Auntie Pauline translated it for her. Tumango ito bilang pagsang-ayon.
"Gurae! I saw some of your videos too! Actually, Yohan sent it to me. He said that you're his childhood friend! I barely recall because look at you! You grew into a fine woman." Yohan's Mother said.
"She takes after me!" Si Mama.
"Molla. Jiltunayo!" Mrs. Hwang said.
"Hajima, Kristel might feel uncomfortable," Yohan interferred.
"Ani, gwaenchana," mabilis na agap ko.
"We should be careful in speaking Hangul, you understand us!" Mr. Hwang said, laughing. May kinuha siyang box at inilapag sa lamesa, sa aking harapan. "Chukahamnida Kristel on your success!"
That night, we had a sumptous dinner at the nearby restaurant after we ditched the Hwang family from the airport.
It happened that I had a childhood friend. A Korean friend it is!
But the fact that we became childhood friends through Auntie Pauline made me shocked. As in na shooked ako! My mother and Auntie Pauline are High School friends, the latter was the helper of the Hwang family, since their family are maids of the Hwang generations. Mama and Auntie often meets too. Yohan is fluent in tagalog, he grew up here but went to Korea to attend College.
I already knew Yohan Hwang, not by his name but by his voice. He became an internet sensation because of his soothing voice that sounded like a lullaby. It exactly had my mind blown by it!
"Welcome aboard, Ma'am," a stewardess greeted.
She giggled when she recognized me.
The man beside me grinned and teased me, "Daebak! I'm not surprised that you became famous in the industry right now."
Yohan Hwang kept on babbling as soon as the plane take off.
"I saw your videos, you still sing..." He uttered, more of a statement than of a question. He's beside the window which is my favorite spot!
"Ah, uh ano random lang... Carpool ganun," nahihiyang ani ko.
"It's your dream since we were kids," aniya habang ngumunguya ng pagkain. "We used to sing together... But you were very good in acting, Kristel. I remembered you were practicing, you ask me to act as your partner for your school play but I rejected it. I can only sing, while here you are, a versatile one." Papuri ni Yohan.
