Bill POV

Slowly I floated in through the front door, Dipper half asleep in my arms. I had barely half of my attention on my surroundings but that was only to keep myself from bumping into anything. Other than that I couldn't take my eyes off the sleeping boy in my arms.

His head was cradled in the crook of my neck, I held him under his thighs and back. Holding him as close to me as I could without pressing too hard and waking him. But he barely flinched when I sat down on the couch slowly sliding him off my lap to the coshans besides me. I stopped when his legs were all that was left on my lap.

I laid my head back feeling, exhaustion from the day washing over me lightly.

"Bill put me down!!" he giggled, hitting my chest lightly.

"No," I stated simply half ignoring the boy, weaving smoothly through the trees, doing lazy circles around a clearing with no end goal in mind. "I will never put you down!!" I laughed squeezing the smaller boy close.

The sun glinted off bouncing curls of light red hair as he tossed his head back, "I can walk just fine! My ankle doesn't hurt now! See, all better!" he rolled saiid ankle in the air to prove it's healed.

"NoPe, as long as I'm around you'll never walk on that ankle ever again!" I shouted bouncing in the air.

"Billl" he cried laughing, he gave in, wrapping a lazy arm around my shoulders, "You just have to be the hero don't you?"

"Yes, Yes I do." I laughed cockly, "Your hero at least."

I came to a slow stop in the middle of the clearing, floating calmly not far off the ground.

"I see them!"

"There they are!"

"Don't let em get away!"

Shouts filled the air coming from everywhere, but even as I whirled around looking for whoever was there in the tree line. I could see nothing.

"Bill!" the boy cried, curling in close to my chest. I held him as close to me as physically possible.

Fear stuck me as all I could do was hold him, I didn't know where the voices were coming from.

"Bill!!" The cry came from the boy but when I looked back to my arms he was gone. The presser I had been enforcing to hold him close made me now slam my arms to my chest.

I woke with a gasp, my hand that had been resting on Pinetree's leg now gripped it. I quickly let go, checking if I had woken him. When it was evident that I hadn't I let out a soft sigh, I haven't had a dream like that in a long time.

Slowly and carefully I moved his legs from my lap and got off the couch, it was still dark out so I didn't want to wake him.

I wandered through the house, my feet got tired after about the 10th or 11th time of walking in and out of every room, I found my way back to the journal room, plopping down on the floor.

Out of all the books one stood out as if it had a spotlight on it.

Slowly I pulled myself off the ground, I ran my finger down the spin of the book.

Taking it from the shelve it fell into my hands, holding it felt like holding a 2 ton boulder. I sat back down on the floor letting it rest in my lap.

I don't know how long I sat there, but couldn't bring myself to open it.

"So this is what you do when I'm not paying attention? Sit around in the dark brooding over a journal?" his voice spooked me, somehow he had opened the door and leaned on the frame to watch me without making a sound.

"I told you I don't want you in here."

With a crooked grin he gestured to the floor, "I'm not inside the room."

"Brat."

"Whatever. Can I come in?"

"Ya, ya." I sighed making him laugh, he walked over and sat down by my side.

"Why do you have that out, and why is it still closed?" he said, talking about the forgotten journal in my lap.

"I had a dream, a memory really about, it's hard to explain. But this book has it all- I just haven't brought myself to open it..." I stuttered not knowing how to explain it to him.

"How old is this journal?" he asked, leaning into me to touch the cover.

"Oh, 1 maybe 2 hundred years."

"Sometimes I forget how old you are, kinda hard to rap my head around." he giggled.

"Hey!" I hiss hitting his shoulder, "I am a god! I do not get old."

He only laughed harder, "let me see this!" he shrieked reaching for the journal, before I knew it, it was out of my hands and into his.

"Thief!" he leaned away holding the book above and behind his head.

"You can't just sit in the dark at 3 am in the morning brooding." he said more seriously. "You helped me so now I'm helping you, what's in this journal that's freaking you out so much."

"What so you want to be even with me, is that it?" I raised a brow at it.

"No, Next will be your turn. That's how this works." he said matter-of-factly.

"Oh?" I asked leaning into him, his checks redden a little. "What is this then?"

"Friendship. Right?" he said this time, not as sure of himself anymore.

I laughed.

"We are friends right?" he asked.

"Ya I guess, now give me back that journal you thief." I huffed trying to reach for it.

"Oh! You distracted me! No, not till you talk to me!" he laughed pushing away from me.

I sighed.

"Are you going to tell me?" he asked softly, "I woke up when you did, I felt you squeeze my leg. I know this is really bothering you."

"It's a long story," I warned.

He sat up, with a smile he held out the journal to me, "It's 3 am, we have nothing better to do."

I watched him carefully as I took the book. His body language gave nothing away, he was open and kind, there was no judgment in his eyes. "You really want to know?" I asked, giving him one last chance to back away and forget about tonight.

"I really do." he persisted showing no sign of hesitation. This boy was really determined to reach into my past.

"Alright fine, your right I had a nightmare, I've been having old memories come back to the surface quite a lot recently." I pulled my eyes from his down to the book, I felt his gaze follow. I brushed my fingers over the cover.

Pinetree reached over and did the same for a moment before taking the edge of the cover and flipping it open to the first page. I took a deep breath.

"1703 through 1846?" Pinetree read off the first page.

"The time it took me to write this journal. I only put the dates in when they're finished." I explained. Pinetree scuted closed to my shoulder, his leg touched mine and he leaned into my shoulder lightly. He flipped the page again.

"I recognize some of these codes..." he muttered.

"Ya I reuse some every now and again, but as you know from the journal you stole. I don't just use one code." I said back even though I'm pretty sure that he wasn't talking to me. "Besides the stuff we are to look at isn't in the front of this journal." I sighed, slowly flipping through the pages to find the right one.

"And what may be on these specific pages that has been on your mind so much?" he asked.

"A boy." I sighed finally reaching the page I was dreading.

"A boy?"
