It was all a bit of a haze. I faintly remember Mom calling 911, but everything else had been forgotten. Submerged under the drugs that they put me under when the ambulance arrived. I didn't think the bite was that severe, but I'm sure my mom's shrill screaming at the doctors made it seem that way.

Glancing around the blinding white hospital room, things twisted and tilted around me, the beeping of the heart meter sounded like a bomb going off. God my head hurt. It was like the world was riding a roller coaster that spun round and round.

"How much did you drug her with!" I could hear my mother yelling at the doctors outside the room. I wanted to bang my head on the wall. Could they be any louder?

"We gave her the highest amount we could for this type of injury, due to your insistence ma'am." Someone replied, their voice shaking slightly, and I don't blame them, my mom can be a bit... hostile.

"You idiotic-" I heard her start to yell before she quieted down. "Excuse me," then I heard the tapping of her heels walk away.

I took a deep breath and started to lift myself up, the drugs still made the world spin but it lessened slightly. A medical student sat in a chair writing notes on a clipboard. He looked up as I stirred and almost fell out of his chair. His eyes were wide as he took me in, then he scrambled up and flung open the door.

"Doctor, we have an... issue. The patient is awake and fully functioning." He rushes out to a tall woman with a doctor coat on. Her eyes flickered over to me and also widened, she stuttered for a moment and rushed into the room.

"What! How did the drugs wear off so fast-" she cut herself off and grabbed a clipboard to look at the information. I watched wearily, I don't exactly know what they are blabbering about. Clearing my throat the doctor and the medical student looked up at me, both still in shock.

"Sorry, but could I see my family?" I inquired, tilting my head slightly. The doctor shook her head and leaned against the counter. The world has finally seemed to still, and my thoughts straightened out.

"We- um should be running some more tests first. You will see your family shortly," the doctor lifts her hand awkwardly and pats my shoulder before rushing out the room. I blinked and looked over at the medical student, he stared at me with an open mouth.

"Could you tell me what happened?" I asked inquisitively. Everything was still in a haze from whatever they made me take. The guy nodded and slowly made his way to my bedside.

"Hello, my name is Dr. Daniel but you can call me Dan." He grinned dorkily at me before picking up his clipboard and reading through it. I noticed the nervous glance he sent me though. "Your family brought you to the ICU medical department. It appears your dog Sasha pierced your leg in multiple places but no worries, you are healing extremely well. In fact, you healed so well that there is no need for stitches!" He let out a faked laugh and rubbed the back of his neck. I gave a small half-smile, but I recognized a nervous person when I saw one.

"What about Sasha? Is she okay?!" I ask quickly, feeling a soreness in my throat, terrified for the answer.

"The dog you mean?" He looks up from the charts on the clipboard and I nod my head. He then begins to speak in a soothing and slow voice, choosing every word carefully.

"We originally assumed a rabies infection must have influenced her, especially after hearing from your mother what a close bond you two once shared. However, after careful examination and testing, she had no signs of prior illness. The only other possibility is that she was... afraid." He looks up at me with sad eyes as if he knew exactly what Sasha was scared of.

I gulped and nodded my head. averting my eyes, I didn't want to see his look anymore, the pity and shock in his eyes looking right at me. God, I hated pity, it didn't make you feel better. It just reminded you of what happened, and I just wanted to forget it all.

"Where is she now?" I whispered.

"Um... I'm sure your mother would much rather tell you any further information." He sends me a sad smile and walks over to the other doctors in the hall. Before closing the door Dr. Daniel looked over his shoulder as if to be sure I was still there.

A little unsettled, I look out the window leading out to the ocean. It was in the distance but it was the first thing that had caught my attention. The sun was setting and the reflection of the bright sun lingers on the slow rising waves. I can't help but feel as though the waves are reaching out to me. How they almost stall before allowing gravity to put them back in their place again.

I closed my eyes and could have sworn I could smell the salt from the hospital room. The sound of the waves rising and falling ringing in my ears as if calling for me. I opened my eyes and shook my head, reaching over I yanked the curtains close. I didn't want to think about the sea, Sasha, or the ridiculous worried looks the doctor kept sending me.

I glanced down at my leg, it was covered by the blanket that was laid across my legs. It no longer stung, and I slowly lifted the blanket. I had expected to see the worst, a ragged mess of scars and skin healing. But as I lifted up the blanket I nearly fell of the bed as I beheld a perfectly smooth and scarless leg.
