I didn't know why I answered the call. One minute I was standing in my bedroom, and the next I was climbing out the window and grabbing my bike. My hair was still wet from my trip earlier, and as I peddled the bike the sun slowly sank.

The sand was harder to ride on with the bike, the wheel sputtered and slid in the sand. I glared down at the useless thing, I skidded the bike to a stop and hopped off. It crashed into the sand but I didn't look back at it. Instead, I ran towards the water.

The sun was causing the sea to look like it had tints of red and orange mixed in with the blue. I slowed down when the tiny waves hit my feet, the water was colder than it was earlier that day. I slowly made my way into the waves, the water soaked into my jean shorts. For some reason, all I could do was look at the water. I went deeper and deeper into the ocean, and it seemed to hold me. Pulling me in. I felt my legs slowly come together, and the strange feeling of having a tail arose. Unlike earlier today, I didn't freak out. I didn't even blink at it. All I did was go deeper into the water.

I swam, my tail pushing me forward at a speed I didn't know I could go. The ocean seemed to whisper to me, telling me to go faster. So I did. I dove fully under the water and swam by corals and fish, allowing the ocean to carry me on.

That's when I saw it, a small boat was floating on the water, I could see it's hull from underneath. I slowly floated up towards the surface, for a closer look.

A boy and a girl sat on the boat eating strawberries, they seemed to be laughing at whatever the other one said. They hadn't noticed me, which I suppose was a good thing.

As I sat there watching them I felt angry. As if they had killed my mother or something. All the hatred in the world seemed to be pointed at them. Then an undying desire to sing fell over me. This struck me odd. No one wanted to hear me sing, I sounded like a dying roach. As I floated there silently in the water the feeling grew, and the ocean seemed to be asking me..no, begging me to do so.

Then against all better judgment, I started humming quietly, it was a calming and sweet melody. I didn't hum loudly, but the couple turned their head and looked down into the water. Their eyes were dazed, and the strawberries in their hands fell to the ground. Entirely forgotten. I slid back in the water, but I never stopped humming.

The girl was the first to jump, she slid off the boat and landed in the water with a small splash. The guy followed after her but with very little grace. They tread the water rapidly, squirming around as if they were struggling to swim. Their movements slowed down, and their struggle in the water increased. Staring them in the eyes I watched as their dazed looks soon changed to fear.

The couple couldn't have been out of high school, they were only a few years younger than me. I watched with horror as they slowly started to fall into the waves, thrashing at the water. This only made them slower, and they sank. Lower and lower under the water. Now they were screaming and shrieking, but that just made them inhale more. I felt tears rolling down my face as I watched them slowly go motionless and pale.

I finally stopped humming, but the melody still floated in my head. It no longer sounded like a sweet and calming noise. Now it sounded like a cold haunting tune.

But I won't lie... It felt right.
