Colson

47 Years Old

I sat down at the dining room table with my coffee and computer and couldn't stop laughing. I facetimed my parents, my brothers, and Tegan's parents. We've done these family calls typically once a week if not more laughing about things the kids do or have done. It helps keep us sane, needless to say I needed this one right now. It didn't matter to me that it was 6am on a Friday morning. They all answered and our group chat was ready to start.

"You better have a good reason waking us up, out kids are out of school we don't need to wake up this early anymore." My brother Kaden said.

"Trust me totally worth it." I smiled.

"Oh god, who did what?" Dalton laughed.

"Story time." I said with a smile. "My 16-year-old son ran his truck into a ditch last night, why you ask? Oh, because he was trying to impress a girl."

"That doesn't warrant a 6am call asshole." Kaden said.

"Honey, is he okay?" My mom asked the same time Tegan's did.

"He's fine, and totally isn't the rest of the story." I laughed again. "So, I went out after the kids went to bed to pick the truck up with a buddy of mine. When I got back, I went out to the office to finish up some proposals. After I finished them, I turned off all the lights out there and was locking up the garage when I saw headlights out in our woods. Of course, being me though hmm let me just wait. I did, and it did not disappoint." I laughed again. "Because currently my 17-year-old son is upstairs in his room trying to figure out how to sneak a girl out before his parents notice that she spent the night."

"WHAT?!" They all said at the same time and most started laughing.

"That is definitely a you move." My dad laughed.

"How in the hell?" Dalton said.

"I watched him sneak her into the house, he had no idea I was even home yet. I changed the alarm code last week and the kids don't know the new one. He realized quickly he made a mistake as soon as the house was locked up." I said.

"Wait, where is Tegan?" Tatum asked.

"Currently in the kitchen making lunches for the kids." I stated and Tatum covered her mouth. "Speaking of the 17-year-old, he just came downstairs." I looked up from where I intentionally sat with a full view of the door. "Hey Cole."

"Oh my god, he really is mini you. I wasn't sure which one you were talking about." My dad said and started cracking up laughing again. Apparently, when I was in my teens, I had snuck a few girls in, or so my dad likes to remind me now that our house is full of teenage boys. Cole turned toward me, looked up the stairs and nodded his head. Yup I knew right then that girl was on the steps waiting for the out.

"Morning Dad."

"Heading out to school early?" His eyes shifted back and forth a few times. Everyone on screen was laughing.

"Uh, no forgot something out in my truck." I gave him a small nod but didn't take my eyes off the door.

"You sure?" He nodded his head.

"Morning sweetie." Tegan said from the kitchen.

"Morning Mom." She started towards him and I heard the footsteps go up the stairs. I closed my eyes and tried not to laugh. Then looked down on the screen and whispered.

"She just snuck back upstairs." They all burst out laughing again.

"How'd you sleep?" Tegan asked him, before looking over at me slightly confused.
