Colson

50 Years Old

My only daughter has been broken. Not physically, physically she's fine, sort of. I mean we have to basically force her to eat when she drops into her depression state after not hearing from Bennett for a few weeks, but we've become accustomed to it and have tried to adjust. It doesn't make it any easier to see her cry. To see that look in her eye, that look I wish I never had to see.

You know the look, right? The one of just utter pain, like you've completely be broken in half. I shouldn't have to see it on my 17-year-old daughter. It's been about 11 months, so we had to find a way to cope with it. What our beautiful daughter doesn't know is that Bennett is out of BUD/S. He called us to ask and make proper preparations to be able to take Kayle to her junior prom, without her knowing.

Tegan picked out a beautiful dress and has had Kayle out since early this morning getting her hair and nails done. Kayle was planning on going with some of her friends because she didn't want to miss out, now she's upstairs getting into her dress, and I've been hiding Bennett in the game room. Tegan of coursed picked him out a matching button-down shirt, and a nice pair of black slacks.

"I can't thank you and Mrs. Tegan enough for this. Seriously, and for letting me crash here the next couple of nights till I get stationed."

"They let you know where yet?" He shook his head.

"Not yet, I'm really hoping for Fort Worth though, it's the closest and I all but begged to be there." He let out a small laugh. "I know it's like three hours away but I'll have my own place on base and high hopes that you'll let Kayle come visit sometimes."

"You still plan on marrying our girl?"

"The second she turns 18 if I could." He laughed. I just nodded before Colton came running into the room.

"She's heading downstairs. How we playing this? I need to make sure to get her on camera for sure!" I think he was more excited about this than the rest of us, and couldn't help but laugh. "Seriously, you need to be like hidden but not."

"Why don't I go stand outside by the Chevelle?" Oh, I forgot to mention that they're taking my older brothers Chevelle to prom. Don't ask how I worked that one out.

"Shit, that's perfect!" Colton said before running out of the room.

"Ready?"

"Yes sir." I gave his shoulder a pat before he went out the back door and I walked into the living room to wait for my beautiful daughter to come down the stairs. She looked absolutely gorgeous, and we took a ton of pictures you know prom.

"Okay, get out of here. Your limo or something is waiting." Colton said rolling his eyes. He opened the front door and hurried out onto the porch. Tegan and I followed blocking Kayle's view for a minute, but when we turned around to check on her, she was looking down anyway.

"I think I forgot something." I could see tears forming, and I looked over at Tegan, who quickly jumped into action. I looked back behind me at Bennett, standing as comfortably as he could, patiently waiting for her to look up. He made eye contact with me and I just gave him a reassuring nod.

"Sweetie, we triple checked like a hundred times. You have everything you need to have a fun night with your friends. You need to get over to Mikayla's for pictures with everyone, we're going to meet you there remember?" Kayle nodded her head but didn't look up.

"I'm going to try and call him again." Kayle grabbed for her wallet thing to pull out her phone.

"Oh my god, look up Kayle!" Colton yelled out still holding his phone recording everything going on. She looked up and glared at him before putting her head back down and I watched her tap call on her phone. She put it up to her ear, and I looked over at Bennett. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and smiled.
