"I had a really weird dream last night," Amber remarks as I walk into the dining room. The mention of the word dream has me groaning, recalling the horrifying nightmare I woke up from at three in the morning. I've been unable to stop hearing Nina's screams as she fell down the chasm.
"Me, too," Fabian agrees.
I glance between them. "Make that three," I add warily. "What was yours?"
"It was at the ball and—" Amber begins. No.
"—the spirit pushed Nina down the chasm in the tunnels?" Fabian finishes carefully.
I look between the two of them as they turn to me. "Did we have the same dream?"
Unusual. Not necessarily unheard of, but definitely unheard for people who aren't...like you.
Fabian glances at the rest of the house as they pile in for breakfast. He nods toward the kitchen and says, "We should talk in the kitchen." Amber and I follow him into the kitchen to figure out what exactly happened last night.
"This is creepy," Amber accurately remarks. "But I don't remember seeing you in the dream, Ashley."
"Me either," Fabian concurs.
I cross my arms. "Yeah, I have a feeling it...wasn't just a dream for me. I could move around and I was wearing my dress, but no one could see me. I saw the two of you, tried to talk to you, but...you couldn't hear me. Oh, speaking of, did you see the same thing I saw, Amber?"
Amber replies, "Do you mean the Fabina ki—"
Fabian interrupts with a slightly red face, "There's Nina."
Amber rushes out to pull her into the kitchen with us. "Nina, you'll never believe," she gets right to it, "the dream Fabian, Ashley, and I all had last night."
"The spirit pushed me down the chasm," Nina states cautiously, perfectly summing up my dream and theirs.
"Wow, that was a really good guess."
I shake my head. "No, Amber, I think she had the same dream as us."
"Right. Obvsie."
"We're having shared dreams now?" Nina questions. "And we're seeing the spirit, too? This is getting out of hand."
Clearing my throat, I grab their attention. "So, uh, did anyone else feel like they were having an out-of-body experience or was it just me? 'Cause like I was just telling them," I turn to Nina now, "it was like I was there but I wasn't. No one could hear me. I...when you went down the chasm, I was yelling your name and you had no idea."
