The loud shattering of the glass was heard around the house
Nari was practicing to toss the ball over her head, but didn't notice one of the antique vases behind her, causing her to bump it and letting it fall to the ground
"What happened?"
Her mother's angry voice boomed
Nari heard hasty footsteps coming down the stairs
She started trembling, expecting already what was going to happen
Her brother wasn't here to protect her now, he was still taking his classes
He was the only member in the family who actually cared about her wellbeing
But he wasn't here this time to stand up for her
The maids who came to clean up the mess were also scared, looking at 14-year-old Nari with pity, also knowing what was going to happen next
Finally downstairs, Nari's mother made her way to her, eyes on the shattered pieces of porcelain on the ground
Her mother's eyes now on her, she swore she could see flames in them
"What have you done?"
Before Nari could speak up, she felt a stinging sensation on her cheek
The force bringing her down to the ground
Blood was dripping from the side of her mouth, the metallic taste making her scrunch up her nose in disgust
"Do you know how much that cost?!"
Her mother shouted, letting the whole world know of her daughter's mistake
"That vase cost more than your life!"
Nari was a crying mess on the floor, holding her volleyball tightly in her arms
Noticing this, her mother took it away from her then grabbed her hair, bringing it up to a painful angle
"Didn't I already tell you?! You can't play, you will not play, and you will never play!"
She shouted at her face
Then harshly pushing her to the ground again, the force sending her head straight to the tiled floor, hitting against it hard
Just when Nari had lost her consciousness the doors of the mansion opened, revealing her brother, he had come home earlier than expected from school
Catching sight of his unconscious sister, he immediately made his way to her, lifting her body in his arms
"What did you do?!"
The 20-year-old shouted at his mother in rage, the tone of his voice made her panic
"J-jin, sweetie, you're back early"
She pointed at the ball on the floor, the ball he got for Nari's birthday
"She's been playing volleyball when she knows she's not suppo-"
"Shut up!"
He cut her off
"I'm the one who's been allowing her!"
Disbelief showed on his mother's face
"S-seokjin, son-"
"Do not call me your son!"
He retorted
"You do not have the right to call me your son!"
