I take a seat in homeroom emotionally drained from everything that happened last night and this morning. Luckily I got into the classroom a couple minutes early so the teacher isn't here yet and I have a chance to be on my phone for a couple minutes.
I unlock my phone and see that theirs a message from my mom but not one from Bailey. I open my messages and read my mom's message. "Sorry, can't talk now. I'm sure you can figure the problem out on your own." The message says, leaving me confused. This is not my mom. My mom never would say something like this and she always types with abbreviations when she texts.
The bell rings and I hurriedly put my phone back in my pocket. Homeroom and the rest of my classes up to lunch pass slowly and I constantly find my eyes drifting to the clock.
Finally the lunch bell rings and I bolt up from my seat and head to the bathroom. I drop my books off in my locker then head to the girl's bathroom on the farthest side of the school away from the cafeteria to have more privacy.
When I enter the bathroom I check all the stalls to make sure they're empty and then push the trashcan in front of the door.
Luckily this thing has happened to my mom before so I know what to do. I call my mom's main work line and listen to it ring. Finally someone picks up and says, "Hello Jayden, we've been waiting your call." The voice is familiar but I can't seem to remember who it is.
My breath hitches and I decide to respond with, "Who is this?"
"Who do you think JJ?" The voice says and I almost feel my heart stop.
"J-Julian?" I stutter in disbelief.
"Yeah sis, it's me." He says.
"How? You were taken by the police."
"I have my ways. Now if you want mom back then I suggest you bring me the money."
I can't remember any money that he would possibly want and ask, "What money?"
"Don't act stupid, you know what I'm talking about." I then remember the money my mom got from turning my uncle in for murder of his children, the same uncle that had Saige.
"Why do you want the money from when Uncle Dylan was turned in?"
"Well Jay, I might've learned a couple things from him and I owe him. It's only fair that I put the money to good use."
"What kind of good use?" I ask questionably because I know that it can't be anything good.
"I don't want to say too much, but do you remember how Uncle Dylan said once that if he had enough money he could do anything?"
"Well yeah."
Their's silence and then it hits me, nuclear bombs. Uncle Dylan's best friend makes nuclear bombs and for enough money will blow up anything.
"Fuck okay. Same place as last time?" I ask quickly.
"Of course. You have 30 minutes and don't try anything stupid again or you know what will happen." He says and ends the call.
I debate my options in my head carefully because I know I can't do much by myself, because Julian is an amazing hacker, and can tell my location and what I'm doing on my phone. But I realize that I know someone that can probably help. I quickly move the trash can away from the door and then rush out into the hallway.
I sprint down the hallways and slow down only when I reach the doorway to the cafeteria. I enter the cafeteria and scan my eyes over all the people there, looking for a certain person. I finally find them and quickly start walking to them. But I'm stopped by a certain person that I hate stepping in front of me.
"Why hello. What's the rush?" Bridget says with an evil smirk.
"Not the time." I say and try to get around her.
She moves to the side I'm trying to push through and says, "Woah woah, I think you can wait just a sec."
"Actually no I can't." I say and wrap my leg around one of her legs and swiftly pull my leg towards me at an angle. She falls and her head lands with a loud thwack on the ground. Everyone is now looking at us. I step over a very angry Bridget and make my way to the certain person again.
When I reach her she has wide eyes and looks extremely confused.
"Give me your phone." I say sternly and hold out my hand.
"What?" Bailey asks.
"Please, I don't have much time." I say with pleading eyes.
She slowly hands me her phone and when it reaches my hand I quickly say, "Thanks," and start running out of the room.
I run out to the parking lot and to my car. When I get in I quickly start the engine and pull out her phone, luckily she unlocked it before she gave it to me and I call a number I know by heart.
"Hello, this is Sheriff Dan speaking." The voice says after a couple rings.
"Hey it's Jayden I have a code 207 at the abandoned warehouse South of Central Park. I have about 25 minutes and I need you to get there in about 28." I say quickly and put on my seat belt.
"Got it, we'll be there. And good luck Jay." The Sheriff says and ends the call. I put the phone on my lap and am about to pull out when the other door opens and Bailey jumps into the car.
She slams the door closed and says, "Jayden what's going on?"
"Bailey please, I don't need you involved in this. Please leave, I don't want you to get hurt" I say pleadingly.
"Yeah, but I need to be in this to make sure you don't get hurt either. And plus you have my phone." She says.
Her pretty, pleading, brown, eyes makes me unable to say no, so I respond with, "Fine, get your seat belt on." And I quickly pull the gear shift into reverse.
"So are you going to tell me what's going on?" Bailey asks as I pull out of the parking space.
"You want the long version or the short version?" I ask and pull onto the road.
"Short version."
"Do you remember that guy that had a knife at my house that day you and Chelsea were at my house?"
"Yeah."
"Well he kidnapped my mom and now wants the money from when my mom turned in my uncle. And I had to get your phone because he knows who I call because he's a really good hacker."
Bailey stays silent to let it all sink in and just as she's about to open her mouth to say something, but is stopped as I pull into a bank parking lot and throw my car into park.
"I'll be right back. Stay here." I say and get out of the car with Bailey's phone in one pocket and mine in the other.
I burst through the bank doors and quickly tell the closet banker, "I need all the money from the bank account named Jayden Sydney Ryder, in cash."
"Password?" The banker asks.
I tell her the password and comes out with a black duffel bag. I tell the banker thanks and then head outside.
When my mom turned in my uncle she decided to put all the money into my account but leave it all in cash at the bank if needed. This is of course not the first time this has happened so the bankers are kinda used to this happening especially since we always go to the same bank.
But because of the money being there I can't use my bank account so all my credit cards are connected to a different account named Dakota Billie Marriott, which is what my name was when I was born but was changed after my parents got divorced and my mom kept me.
When I step outside walk over to my truck and then hop in. After I close the door look Bailey straight in the eyes.
"You ready?" I ask.
"I'd be ready for anything with you." Bailey says with a smile.
I buckle up, throw the duffle bag in the back, and rev up the engine.
"Then lets roll baby." I say jokingly. And with that, I yank the gear shift into reverse and go to see Julian with confidence because with Bailey I can do anything.
