Friday morning has finally come and I'm wearing Bailey's varsity jacket with light blue jeans and black and white checkered vans. This look reminds me of Bailey and I blush thinking about her but I realize that even talking to her makes me hated.
After Chelsea and I's fight we stopped talking and I've started hanging out with the people that I met at Bailey's party. I've seen Chelsea starting to hang out with Bailey a bit more and I'm a bit jealous but I know that I shouldn't be hanging out with her anyways. But I have to hang out with her today because she's my tutor. I sigh and head to school.
As I'm pulling my books out of my locker I feel a tap on my shoulder, I turn around and see Bailey.
"Hey." I say and finish grabbing my books.
"Hey. So I'll meet you in the library after school?" She says and bites her lower lip. I close my locker and turn to face her.
"Uh, yeah, sure" I respond and make sure not to make eye contact.
"Um, are you mad at me or something?" Bailey asks.
"It's complicated." I say, the minute bell rings and I turn to go to class. Bailey doesn't stop me and I can tell she's hurt. I am too.
Soon it's 6th period and as Bailey walks by my desk she puts a folded piece of paper on my books.
I make sure the teacher isn't looking and open it.
It reads:
Do you hate me?
I write down no.
I pass it back when the teacher isn't looking.
The conversation continues like this:
Bailey- Are you still mad at me?
Me- No, I was never mad at you.
Bailey- Then why are you ignoring me.
Me- It's complicated.
Bailey- I think I might understand.
Me- The thing is that people have been hating me because I've been hanging out with you and everyone has a crush on you, so other people are jealous and take their anger out on me.
Bailey- I knew about Chelsea but I didn't know that people were giving you shit about hanging out with me. I will stop them. I know how. But can you please stop ignoring me? I don't like it.
Me- Okay, and thank you.
Bailey- Your welcome. The bell is about to ring, here's my phone number *Bailey's phone number*
I smile and pack up my stuff. I put the paper in my pocket and the bell rings. I look at Bailey and she nods at me.
One more class and then I get a whole hour with her, I blush at that and make my way to my next class.
I walk around searching for the library with my backpack on my back and my phone in my hand with the school map pulled up on my phone. I've never had to go to the library till now so I'm lost and late. I growl at my phone realizing that I'm on the wrong floor. Suddenly someone pulls on my backpack hard and I fall to the floor. I growl and look at the person. Chelsea.
"Is someone lost?" She laughs in an evil tone.
I roll my eyes and get up.
"At least I'm not so desperate for attention that after school is over I run around the school pushing people and laughing at them." I say back to her.
Her face drops but only for a second.
"At least I know my way around the school." She says.
"I'm new, I have an excuse."
She pushes me against the wall and gets really close to my face. "Look Rider, you don't belong here. Your just a lost puppy that keeps being kicked out of schools and has no where to go. Go back to the streets where you belong. Even your own family doesn't want you, your own brother tried to kill you." She yells at me. I clench my fists till there white.
I open my mouth but no words come out, I'm defeated because she's right. I look down at the floor.
"That's right, stay silent you little-" Chelsea is interrupted by someone pushing her to the floor. I look up and see that it's Bailey, to my rescue again.
"Look you little brat, go crawl back into the hole you came from. You can't even keep a friend for a week, let alone a girlfriend." Bailey yells at her.
Chelsea looks at Bailey and then at me, "You'll regret this!" Chelsea yells at then runs off.
I slide to the floor and hug my knees. Bailey looks at me unsure what to do.
Tears start to form in my eyes. "It's true, what she said." I say.
Bailey sits in front of me on her knees.
"Look at me," She says and I do. "You are amazing and people shouldn't be giving you crap for what you've done in the past, so dry your eyes and lets go. I want to show you something."
I wipe my eyes with the palm of my hand and stand up. She takes my hand and I follow her.
Her hand is soft and warm. I blush at the contact. She leads me down a hallway full of trophies. Theirs a case full of them with Bailey's last name on them.
"What do you see," Bailey asks not letting go of my hand.
"Your last name on tons of trophies." I respond looking at all of them.
"That's why I'm popular, that also gives me power. The greater your family at this school the more power you have."
"So your basically the queen?" I ask.
"I think of myself as the Soccer Queen. Which also means that people fear me. If you let me protect you then you won't get bullied anymore. Are you okay with me protecting you."
I hesitate because I can take care of myself, but I really want to stay at this school so I respond with, "Yes."
"Then lets go and start raising your History grade."
For the rest of the hour she pushes me through history books and I feel confident about the test on Monday. And that's when I realize that I'm crushing on the Soccer Queen.
