I stood on the decking, watching Cole pace up and down it whilst talking on the phone. I would try and listen to what he's saying but my mind is somewhere else right now.
"Okay. Okay, thanks Jon. Bye" he said, hanging up the phone. "Your parents and your friends are still fine. No word from Vinnie yet, but I know they'll be planning something" he said.
"Who's Jon?" I asked.
"Not important" he said.
"Yes. It is important. How does he know my parents are okay?"
"He works with me" he said.
"So, he works for them?" Brilliant.
"Yes. But I can trust him. We should go inside" he said, and I followed him.
I sat on the sofa next to the fire, watching the orange flames dance behind the glass door. Cole stayed in the kitchen, probably avoiding me and regretting what just happened. I still had butterflies; they didn't seem to want to go away.
