"So...Connor..." Avery stopped mid-sentence as Connor froze in his tracks and spun around slowly.
The warmth had vanished from his face as he grimaced. He cantered up to Avery, and she only just shut her mouth from swearing, before his hand is at her throat and he pushed her up against the wall.
"How. The. Hell. Do. You. Know. My. Real. Name," Connor all but growled. Avery knew better than to react with a snobby comeback as she gasped and spluttered.
Connor let her fall feet first to the floor and quickly put his hands upon the wall, either side of Avery's head, stopping her from escaping.
"Speak, imposter," Connor said with a menacingly calm tone.
"I-I can read m-minds?" Avery muttered out, her head hung low as she thought this might be the end of her fantastical time with Connor...and friends. This thought soon dropped in her mind as Connor let stormed towards the door. Avery stayed spellbound on the floor, too hesitant to move or not...
Connor spun around and grinned. He waved his arm towards the door and said, "You coming?"
----------
It was late at night and Avery, Connor and his friends were circled around a log of firewood flaming fire surrounded which.
"So you all can read minds too?" Avery questioned, curious as she remembered the dark creature saying it was extraordinary for humans to have such ability.
Sam shook his head. "Not just that, we can link others through our minds too, and wise one over here," Sam pointed his finger at Will, "can also block the queen from hearing our mind links. Unfortunately, it leaves him drained. We don't use it much."
It wasn't often that Avery was amazed, but she just stared and couldn't look away. She finally felt at home, she didn't have a house, but she had a home. That's better than nothing, Avery realised.
"Hey Av, what do you say we do some karaoke? Old-school style without technology," Mila asked with a slight pleading in her eyes to avoid the oncoming subject of why Sam and Will were so close.
"Av? And sure, I don't see why not," Avery replied, giggling at the hidden meaning in Mila's subject change.
"Mils here just wants to avoid her favourite topic to talk about. L.O.V.E.," said Connor, teasing her for the blush that was spreading across her face.
Connor's growing smirk quickly faded as Mila kicked his leg and used her hands to push him back off the log. A few seconds later havoc was wreaking on their campsite with cheers of triumph and groans of anger as a mini-civil war broke out.
Avery laughed silently to herself as she avoided the conflict. Better not let these half-strangers know her true fighting skills. She gasped as strong hands fell onto either of her shoulders and she flinched at the contact.
Immediately her mind flicked to Clyde, his strong defined muscle peeking through his shirt, his wide smile and soft auburn eyes. She imagined him without his shirt on and heat rose to her cheeks.
Clyde let took a step next to her, "You know I can read your thoughts right?"
The heat in Avery's face immediately grew hotter, if possible, and she snobbily replied with, "I'm sure your smartass brain planted the thought in my head."
Clyde took a step forward and looked back from the ongoing conflict.
"Whatever floats your boat, but I really need to tell you something important," Clyde took a deep breath preparing himself for whatever he would say.
