Chapter 19: It takes one, to know one

Vaessa's Point of View

"Remember, Emerald, your parents loved you so much."

"I will, Nana Lia."

"And never tell anyone about yourself. Don't let them know anything about you, especially your special abilities, as well as your kin."

"Why?"

"There will always be people who will win you, but never give them the chance. No one could be trusted in this world we live in..."

Hindi ko napansin na kanina pa pala ako nakatitig sa locket na pinakaiingatan ko. Nakaukit sa loob nito ang aking buong pangalan na kahit sino ay walang nakakaalam, maliban sa taong nag-alaga sa akin sa loob ng limampung taon.

Vaessa Emerald Creswell

"Vaessa, it's time for breakfast! Are you okay there?" Narinig ko ang tanong ni Oceana mula sa labas ng banyo.

Sinara ko ang aking locket at tinago sa aking damit. Tinapos ko na ang aking pagligo at saka isinuot ang outdoor uniform ng academy. It was a simple coat dress with a high collar and buttons up-front and lines. Tumigil ako sa tapat ng salamin at bahagyang pinasadahan ng tingin ang aking sarili.

Covered with black uniform ang golden patterns, vivid emerald hair that reaches my waist, somewhat pallid complexion, and a dull sage color of lifeless eyes. Yeah, nothing new.

I suddenly felt a throb from my veins in my legs. When I lifted the skirt area of the dress, there was a visible green vein lining on my right thigh. I reached for a canister that I personally made myself from the shelf and pushed myself on the edge of the sink.

My palms hovered over the canister, then poison continuously flowed from my body, from my thigh. The toxic scent of my element slowly merged in the air, making it virulent. Naramdaman ko ang unting pagkawala ng sakit at berdeng linya sa binti ko.

After emanating, I sealed the canister without omissions and hid it from everyone's sight in my cabinet. Paglabas ko ng banyo, naghihintay na si Oceana sa may pinto, habang si Celandine ay pumasok ng banyo upang maligo. Flora is nowhere to be found as usual, being the Assembly President totally takes most of her time.

Imbis na dumiretso ng hall para kumain, dumiretso ako sa Function Hall kung saan ang assembly place ng mga special course na may off-campus activities, tulad ng apothecary course kung saan ako nag-enroll. Wala pang tao pagdating ko maliban sa isang personnel na nasa lobby.

Umupo ako sa gilid at nilabas ang aking mga glass bottles at vials na naglalaman ng mga potions, concoctions, at kung ano-anong substance na nakapaloob sa mga ito. I encircled my hands on one, trying to manipulate the potion inside. The bottle's becoming warm, then it's suddenly getting cold, then it was almost full, after a moment, it's now empty...
