Chapter 7: Pursuit

Being a part of a rebel group, as one would expect, made me encounter a lot of powerful and wealthy families, aristocrats, especially government officials. It was our mission to put them in their demise, or at least do something that they deserved. We ought to destroy them.

But of course, not all missions were successful. Most of the time, we fail. Sometimes, we just screwed things up. We're not just dealing with authorities, but also mages. Given that they have their positions and money, it's not impossible for them to be powerful, or to have themselves trained and entered the academy. Kaya hindi na ako magtataka kung ang mga humahabol sa akin ay isa sa mga misyon ko dati na hindi nagtagumpay.

Bigla naman akong napabalik sa reyalidad nang magsalita ang taong nasa harapan ko.

"I'm not someone that you should be aware of, promise," he introduced and even raised his palm.

"Gago ka ba?" Bigla na lang iyon lumabas sa bibig ko kaya natawa siya lalo. "Kilala ba kita? Diba hindi? Who are you to tell me who to trust and not?"

He heaved a painful sigh. "Whoo, grabe ka na magsalita ah! Nakakasakit ka na!" He even joked, but when I was about to move my hand, napaatras siya. "Chill sabi! Para sa isang taong may yelong kapangyarihan, hindi ka marunong mag-chill!"

I launched an ice energy centimeters away from him in which I did on purpose. But it looked like he anticipated it, because he didn't even budge and his grin remained.

Magsasalita pa sana ako nang unahan na niya ako. "To answer the rest of your questions, yes, I'm also being chased. By whom? Hindi ko rin kilala, kaya nga tinatakasan ko sila eh. Wait, you're being chased too?"

Hindi naman ako nakasagot agad, although it's already obvious. My hand remained facing him and we just stared at each other, as the wind brushed harshly.

I was trying to observe his next moves but it looked like he's not the bad guy here, but it doesn't mean that we're allies either.

"Natulala ka na dyan, gwapo ko ba?" Bigla siyang nagsalita sa gitna ng katahimikan na ikinairap ko. Pareho sila ni Garnet, parehong mayabang.

I rolled my eyes in annoyance. "Oh, shut up."

Narinig ko na naman ang nakakainis niyang halakhak. "Can't help it, you look amused and surprised, and then you talk informally like we're already good friends, but you're too vigilant and your eyes, I cannot read it."

Napatingin naman ako sa kanya dahil doon, nagtaka naman ako dahil parang may hindi siya sinabi sa dulo.

"How–"

I stopped when I felt some presence aside from us. Mukhang naramdaman din niya iyon dahil naging alerto siya at napatingin sa paligid. But this isn't the presence of those who were chasing me. This is different, it's more powerful and overwhelming. I tried to track how many people there are, but it's too hard to distinguish. I can't even count them.
