Chapter 3: Lurking Shadows

I grew up in a family of four only; my father, mother, and my sister Courtney. The houses and our neighbors were all meters away from ours, which is why I have no other friends, aside from my sister.

Nasa gitna ng kawalan ang bahay namin at malayo sa kabihasnan, that's why I don't have any friends or someone to talk to that have the same age as mine. Sometimes, when we happen to visit some parts of the town and cities in Corinthia, I noticed that the establishments and other houses have large distances in between, hindi tulad dito sa Peirronia na halos dikit-dikit lahat ng mga bahay.

It became hard for me to interact and trust other people. But despite all of that, I was never taught to disregard others who need saving, who need help.

Sasha's case was not an exemption either, even though I just met her once. I don't trust her, but it doesn't mean that I'll just let her be captured by some ruthless officials with a foolish reason.

Pagsapit ng tanghali ay mag-isa ulit akong naghanap ng makakainan sa bayan. Umalis si Garnet at Kuya Rayden, like the usual thing that they do and I absolutely have no idea. Hindi ko alam kung anong oras pa sila makakabalik kaya naman ay hindi ko alam ang gagawin ko dito sa bayan pagkatapos kong kumain ng tanghalian.

Matapos kong kumain ay naglakad ako sa bayan dahil nakalimutan kong bumili ng pagkain dahil sa nangyari kahapon. Minsan ay nagte-training kami ni Garnet pagkatapos namin magtinda sa bakery kapag nagustuhan namin, pero wala siya ngayon.

Garnet is one of the powerful mages that I met, and was also known as one of the strongest here in town. His element is one of the most dangerous and harmful element that I knew, kaya naman sa tuwing siya ang kasama ko mag-training, hindi maiiwasan na sumakit at mamanhid ang katawan ko.

If his power were trained and controlled properly, he might be one of the strongest mage here in the kingdom, or even in the whole Avalon.

Napatigil ako sa paglalakad nang makita ko ang isang itim na uwak na dumapo sa lamp post sa mismong harapan ko. Bigla kong naalala ang dapat kong gawin mamayang gabi kaya hindi ko maiwasang ngumisi.

Matapos nitong ihulog ang bagay na kailangan ko, mabilis itong lumipad paalis. I hid the thing it gave me as if it was a normal thing for me to do.

After I bought what I needed for my cabin, I went back to the bakery. Matapos kong ilagay sa range ang mga pastries na ginawa kaninang umaga, natulala ako habang iniisip ang magiging plano ko mamaya.

Peirronia has three large cities, and each one of them has its own penitentiaries for captured criminals, lawbreakers, felons, you name it. The memory of my experience there suddenly rushed in my mind and remembered how worse it was.

"Huy!" Garnet snapped his fingers in front of me. "Kanina pa kita tinatawag, nagyeyelo na yung inuupuan mo! Huwag mong idamay yung bakery!" He warned.

Napatingin naman ako sa inuupuan ko pati ang lamesa kung nasaan nakapatong ang kamay ko at napansing nagyeyelo na nga ang mga iyon. Nakita ko rin na halos umabot na ang yelo sa mga tinapay, pati na rin sa pader na malapit sa akin.
