"So when did you get back Tae?" Yn asked, as Ygf scrutinsed her new timetable.
"Last night" replied Tae, brushing back his hair to smile at her, his eyes darkening to almost black as he appraised her. "Yn I like your new haircut!"
"Thank you," blushed Yn "it's a lot longer already since I cut it".
"6 weeks is a long time," Tae nodded "gosh I missed you both too much!" he squeezed them both into a tight hug.
"Ooh you signed me up for Music Composition....well done" Ygf mumbled, still looking at the schedule.
"How was the last part of your saxophone tour Tae?" Yn asked glancing at him. She wasn't sure why she felt shy. This was Tae. Her Tae. Well her's and Ygf's. While he had been off touring with their college Jazz Band, Yn and Ygf had been busy setting up and promoting their new online books business. The three had never been apart for so long since meeting 10 years ago. At first they had called each other every day, but the last section of the tour had been so hectic and in a very different time zone, and they had not spoken except for a few minutes here and there.
"It was unreal!" Tae exclaimed "I also met someone amazing", he announced, his face lighting up.
"Awwww Taeeee what's her name??" Yn squealed excitedly.
Tae looked a bit annoyed and replied a little stiffly "Er no, Yn, it's a he."
Yn looked slightly taken aback, but recovered and shrieked "Omg what's his name! Why didn't you tell us earlier? Is he hot?"
Tae looked even more annoyed "Yn, no I don't mean met in that way. He is a new friend. Also, if I were into men, do you not think you would be one of those to know this?!"
Yn spluttered "I erm.....is he hot though?", she giggled blushing, trying to cover her error.
"What do you care?" interjected Ygf and turned to Tae "This one made us late, because she was too busy dreaming about Jimin. Again."
Tae's face changed from a relaxed expression to that of frosty disapproval "Jimin. Still? Hmpf."
"Tae why are you so annoyed?" Yn wondered, becoming a little cross herself. She had not seen her other best friend in 6 weeks and he was picking a fight with her.
"Tae must be exhausted being on tour and then coming straight to college." Ygf smoothed over.
Tae smiled at her gratefully "I am pretty tired. So the even better news is that this new friend of mine, he came back with me! He was moving here with his family, and heard so much about our college from me, that he decided to join here, despite initially having decided on a different college."
Ygf cheered "wow you must have been convincing!"
"Tae!!! Did you seriously sign me up for a Physics project this year??!!" Yn cried out, looking at her timetable, shocked.
Tae looked at Ygf with wide eyes and ducked into the gents toilets calling "See you laterrr!!!" over his shoulder.
"Tae you get back here right now! You know how much I hate maths!! I have far better things to do than tap into a boring calculator all day!!!" Yn shrieked, running after him. Right into the shocked face of someone coming out of the gents, stooped over and adjusting his belt. He straightened to his very tall height and looked down at Yn.
"Erm" he began in a deep gravelly voice and pushed his glasses further up his nose.
Yn gasped "Omg I'm so sorry!" And took several steps back. Looking up at him she realised it was the cleverest student of their whole college. His name was Namjoon and he was the captain of the college Maths Team. He was also frowning at her, his intelligent dark eyes watching her with a guarded expression, from behind his glasses.
Yn blushed and mumbled "I erm don't really hate maths. In fact, I really like it. I mean where would we be without maths? It is super important. Like...everything depends on maths doesn't it? Nothing would work without it. It er rocks!" She finished lamely, trying to be polite. She gave him a bright smile.
Namjoon raised an eyebrow at her and muttered "uh huh.....sorry, excuse me please" and sidestepped her, sauntering off. Yn exhaled awkwardly and hit Ygf on her arm, who was chuckling with disbelief.
They walked into class together, abandoning the hiding Tae. Taking a seat, and saving one for Tae, they started to catch up with fellow classmates. Tae joined them a while later and sat on the other side of Ygf, studiously avoiding Yn's glare. As the class filled up, Yn concentrated on continuing to read her new schedule.
"Oooo Art Class!" Yn cheered. Tae smiled, relieved she was momentarily happy again.
"Yes, you'll be with me and my new friend!" He said happily.
"What is his name?" Yn started, but as she read the project details, her face changed, revealing her shock.
"OMG my Physics project partner is Namjoon!!! Omg he is so difficult to talk to! He looks at me like im an idiot! How am I supposed to work with this guy? He is cold and doesn't talk about anything other than work!" Yn looked up to see Tae and Ygf looking between her and the row behind her, with careful expressions, that were trying to contain awkward giggles. Yn closed her eyes and mumbled in a low voice "He is behind me isn't he?" Tae nodded lips pressed together, while Ygf smiled apologetically at Namjoon.
Yn turned to face Namjoon and her words tumbled out on their own it seemed, as she blushed. "What I meant is......thank goodness I got you as my project partner! You are so focussed! And.....you are so good at maths.....which is awesome because...."
"Maths is super important" Tae nodded sagely, his voice tense with supressed glee.
"Nothing would work without it" Ygf added, mirroring Tae's expression and turning a little pink with the effort to not burst out laughing.
"One might even say......maths rocks!" Tae finished with a thumbs up.
As Ygf and Tae began tittering, Yn glared at them. Namjoon watched the scene with an amused expression on his face.
"Ok class" a fed up voice called from the front. Everyone stopped what they were doing and immediately turned towards the front, where Yoongi stood with a new student.
