(Y/N) watched silently from below the pier, watching as a familiar blond haired teen dangled his feet off the edge of the wood.

He slowly came out of the water, watching Bakugou for a few more moments.

"You're here early," he made his presence known with the flick of his tail, sending water up into the air. Some droplets hit Bakugou on the face. He glared at the merman unamused. "What? You're already in your.. um.. water clothing!"

"Swim suit or swim trunks," Bakugou offered at (Y/N)'s lack of vocabulary.

"Thanks," he nodded before scanning Bakugou silently again. "Why are you mad? Was it Deku? Half dude?"

"Just shut up about it," Bakugou scowled in response. He crossed his arms in a closed off manner, and it made (Y/N) frown.

The merman sunk below the surface of the water, looking around in thought. When Bakugou leaned over the wood to see where he had gone, he lunged towards, wrapping his arms around the human's shoulders.

"What are–" He let his weight drag Bakugou down and off the pier. They sunk into the water, Bakugou had luckily gasped for air right before he was under.

(Y/N) held Bakugou tightly and easily rocketed down a few feet, letting Bakugou take in the view of the ocean. He let him go and watched him float upwards slowly as he let himself sink further down.

He watched star struck as Bakugou's scowl melted off his face. His hair floated calmly in the water and his eyes searched the ocean in wonder.

The moment ended when both of them realised Bakugou needed air to y'know.. breathe.

Back near the pier, (Y/N) helped Bakugou back onto it, slipping under and out of sight for a few moments as he relaxed to try and cool his now heated face.

As he eased back into the safety of the dark water, he heard distant angry and confused yells of where he, the 'dumbass', went.

He simply exhaled with a sigh, letting whatever oxygen left in his humans lungs out in bubbles. He needed to calm his racing heart.

He spotted a hand waving around in the water. He snorted and calmly drifted over with the current before stopping himself, still out of the sight beneath the wood.

He gently grabbed Bakugou's hand, feeling him jolt and tighten his grip in surprise. Their hands laced together and (Y/N) stared at them. He lifted his other arm and traced random lines into Bakugou's wrist. He felt his stomach flip.

(Y/N) let their hands be before he slipped his hand away gently to be sure he didn't accidentally pull Bakugou in again. He circled back around and swam deeper into the darkness of the ocean, leaving the human alone.

Bakugou sat in his living room, watching the news channel distantly as he thought about his merman. He had no clue where he had went after the hand holding incident. Was the stupid fish embarrassed over hand holding? He groaned in frustration.

"And now to Steve Idiotman, who has an interesting report on this marine life institute's discovery of mermaids!"

"WHAT?"

"Bakugou, shut up, I'm studying for my test!" Kirishima yelled back from somewhere in the apartment.

"Like you can even study without me," Bakugou muttered back, staring intently at the clips the news reporter was showing.

The news channel showed a clip of a yellow tailed merman with black tinted fins. Bakugou's mind reeled.

"We have a few others in captivity right now, but we plan to send them back into the ocean," the interviewee sheepishly replied to the interviewer's question. He gestured to the yellow mermaid.

"We're trying to see if they have a mind like ours and have a society of their own. But so far we haven't made a lot of advancements on our research of them."

Bakugou jumped up and rushes into his room. He throws on his swim trunks and slams the apartment's door on his way out. He made it to the dock in record time, looking around for any sight of his merman. After a few minutes of rapidly glancing around, he dove in and waved his arm around to try and gain his attention.

"Where the fuck is he?" Bakugou panted for breath as he pulled himself onto a rock after an hour of swimming by the pier. "Why is swimming to tiring?"

"Maybe you need more practice," a voice whispered out from behind him.

Bakugou scrambled to get away, almost tipping over off the rock.. "YOU IDIOT!" (Y/N) simply smiled weakly, swimming over and placing his hands on Bakugou to help steady him.

After Bakugou was balanced safely on the rock, the merman hoisted himself on the rock and sat up so he was eye level with the blond.

"No seriously, I think you do need practice. You were waving your hands around so awkwardly earlier," (Y/N) said, patting Bakugou on the head. "I can teach you."

Bakugou seemed ready to snap. "I was trying to grab your attention, you FISH! You should know me waving means that! You're so stupid, I could strangle you!" Bakugou surged forward and pulled the merman close in a hug. "God damnit.. I thought that stupid institute took you..."

"Huh.. instatoort... instarn..?"

"Institute," Bakugou adjusted so he could look at the merman. "It's.. whatever. They say they're gonna let go of the mermaids anyways." He took a few breaths to calm himself.

He shoved the merman off of him back into the his water and stood up. "Bye dumbass."

"Wait!" (Y/N) grabbed his ankle. "Why are you leaving so early?" he pouted.

"Why should I stay?" Bakugou literally growled, his eyebrows furrowing.

"Because you like me," the merman smirked, his grip tightening on his ankle. "You held my hand~!"

"I did not!" Bakugou denied yet still chose to sit down and dangle his feet into the water. (Y/N) moved in between his legs, letting go of his ankle in favour of grabbing the rock's slippery surface and hoisting himself up so he was nose to nose with the blond.

"Hi," he whispered, and Bakugou rolled his eyes, cupping the merman's cheeks and smashing their lips together. "Oh, okay," he said dumbly as they pulled away. "Okay."

"Okay?" Bakugou scowled.

Instead of trying to convey the jumbled mess inside his head, (Y/N) pulled him in for another kiss.
