On a dark and windy night, 21 year old Sabrina Winters came home to her apartment, whom she shares with her best friend Vanessa Perez. The 2 girls have been friends for as long as they could remember. Coincidentally, they both applied to the same university and got accepted. Sabrina for business management and Vanessa for nursing. Due to their university being pretty far from home, they decided to live together in an apartment building not too far from campus.
When they first moved in, their landlord had warned them about how the previous tenants who had lived in that same suite before them, had mysteriously disappeared and they were never found. He also warned them not to open the locked door in the back of Vanessa's walk-in closet, no matter how curious they got, saying that there were lost souls stuck behind the door.
Sabrina's POV
Lost souls? Yeah, right. He just wants to freak us out. Well guess what? It's not gonna work. Vanessa and I aren't gullible enough to fall for that. What are we? 5? Ha! Anyway, time to unpack and start to get this place to feel like home.
Vanessa and I spent the whole day unpacking, organizing and deciding what went where. After a few solid hours of working hard, we decided to order some pizza and wings. While we waited for our food, Vanessa finally broke the silence, that we had somehow managed to build by saying:
"Sab, do you really believe that there are lost souls locked behind the door in my closet?" she asked wearily.
"Of course not Nessa! He's probably just trying to scare us out of the apartment so he can get our first and second month rent." I said, rolling my eyes at the thought.
"If you don't believe him then you wouldn't mind opening the door with me.....right?" She smirked slightly, as if she got me right where she wanted me.
Unfortunately for her, I didn't believe in such things like ghosts or 'lost souls'.
Smirking back at her, I said:
"Sure, but first, we gotta find the key."

A few months later....
For the past few months, Vanessa and I have been working our butts off in university with barely any breaks, except for reading week...which should have been a break, but of course our teachers hated us so that didn't work out......Focus Sabi!!
We had totally forgotten about looking for the key. Our days and nights have been filled with lectures, assignments and labs. Although we live together, we barely say anything other than 'Good morning' and 'Good night'. Even our boyfriends haven't heard from us. Thankfully after we send in our work tonight, we would've finally finished our first year in uni AND be off for the next 5 months!
Later on
While Nessa and I were trying to finish our last assignment, our loving but very childish boyfriend's entered the apartment, screaming and yelling like maniacs!
"What the hell guys?" I practically yelled. I think the lack of sleep was starting to get to me.
"Sorry babe, but it's been months since we've gone out, hung out or even talked. All we say is 'hi' and 'bye', nothing else. I miss you." Ryan said, with a sad smile.
The 25th of this month would make it just over 2 years that we were together. It was amazing how fast time flies!
"Me too baby. You guys even missed our soccer match against the rival school 2 weeks ago." said Marvin, Vanessa's boyfriend of a year.
Suddenly, we heard a scratching sound. It was faint but loud enough for all 4 of us to hear.
Silence
Then we heard a loud thump.
Vanessa's POV
"Did you guys hear that?" Marvin asked, sounding a bit frightened.
Sab and I slowly turned to face each other, both of us matching the same worried and slightly frightened look on one another's faces.
"You don't think....?" I trailed off.
"But it can't be!" Sabrina whispered.
"What are you guys talking about?" Both Ryan and Marvin asked at the same time.
So we told them what our landlord told us; about the old tenants disappearing and were never heard from again and about the lost souls hiding behind a door in my closet.
"Okay guys, look. Sab and I have work due in a few hours. Can we talk about it after, please?" Sabrina asked, looking at the time on her laptop which read 9:36pm.
12:03am
It took us 3 hours but we finally finished our last assignment for the semester!! Not having the strength to cook, the guys decided to order food. Once the food arrived, we ate and we all crashed shortly after taking our last bites. Marvin went in my room with me and Ryan in Sab's with her.
After changing, Marvin and I headed to bed and cuddled up until we fell asleep. After the long tiring day we all had, I was so close to finally falling asleep. And of course that is when I heard the scratching sound from earlier. I looked up to see if Marvin heard it but he was fast asleep. Slowly but carefully, trying not to wake him up, I climbed out of his arms and walked towards my walk-in closet.
The closer I got, the louder the scratching became. Once I reached the small door, the scratching stopped. Kneeling on the hardwood floor, I pressed my ear towards the door. (hey that rhymes!) Everything was absolutely silent.
Bang!........Bang!.........Bang!
The noise was slow but constant, it didn't sound like gunshots so thank god for that at least....
I jumped back from the door, trying to calm my racing heart from the sudden noise. There was something in there and whatever it was, it wanted out!!
