Training in the States felt different. A few more men had shown up, though Soap says that the other men will be waiting for us at our semi-permanent base in Michigan, by the Canadian border. Which Meat updated us, saying that it was by the Ontario border. It doesn't mean a whole lot to me but it sounded like he'd be closer to home.
Some of the American soldiers that are traveling talk about the town saying it's called Fort Gratiot Township. I believe it's a mouthful but they insist on calling it a township, even though it doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. Soap seemed in good spirits about the whole thing. Though maybe he was just happy to get out of Pennsylvania. It's not like we could of done much there and Shepherd told Soap and Ghost, who in turn told me, that he wouldn't be meddling as much with our affairs. Simply be handing out missions. That it'll be fully under Soap, and possibly someone else's control. Ghost said that Shepherd didn't explicitly say anything but he assumes there will be another Captain and more men waiting for us in Michigan.
"You know the other captain?" Ghost asks Soap when we're about halfway there.
"No. Shepherd wouldn't give me the guys name." Soap replies, glancing up to Ghost.
"Why would he hide that information from you?"
"I'm not sure mate."
"Guess we'll all be surprised," I chuckle a little.
The rest of us talk a lot and are laughing about some stories that others are sharing. After another hour or so we land. Soap is the first of us off, followed by Ghost and myself.
"As I live and breathe," a British man walks towards us. He's wearing a boonie hat and I vaguely recognize him. "Soap MacTavish, congrats on your promotion."
"P-Price..." Soap walks over to him, looking like he's seen a ghost. Ghost and I follow behind him.
"Kamarov said you got out fine, wish I coulda left with you but I had to finish up some things back in Russia."
"For months. And you didn't say anything to me?! I thought you were bloody dead!"
Price puts a hand on Soaps shoulder, "I know but it had to be like that. I'm sorry Soap."
His words seem to calm our captain. I can't see his expression but I'm sure it softens. Price then looks over to Ghost and I.
"More soldiers to act as Wallcroft? Well least they're not toting around a gas mask."
Ghost smiles a bit, "He still as slow as ever?"
"Ay you've met him?"
"Yes sir, and you're Bravo's old captain yeah? Nice to finally meet ya. Roach and I are some of Kempson's men."
Price laughs a bit, "Your names Roach?" He looks at me. "Some nicknames. How the hell'd you get that?"
"Not fully sure, sir. I've actually had the nickname since my rugby days."
"You played rugby?"
"Yes sir, for most of my childhood."
"Impressive. If I recall, you were one of Kempson's fastest. I'm sure that's probably why." His gaze shifts to Ghost. "What do they call you?"
"Ghost, sir." He responds.
"He really lives up to the name," Soap adds.
"Ghost and Roach, which one of yous our new Lieutenant?"
"I am sir." Ghost responds.
"Too perfect. I'm going to have to borrow you for a mission."
Ghost nods a bit and hands his bag off to me. He then follows Price off to do whatever. Soap sighs then shakes his head.
"Let's go find our rooms Roach." Soap says, starting to walk away.
"Wait rooms?" I catch up so that I'm walking next to him.
"Yeah. The base has rooms that can house two of us. Rooms have desks and small closets."
"Really?"
"Apparently. And Price just gave us free rein to put Ghost wherever we want."
I chuckle, "So where would that be?"
"I'm not sure yet. Let's go find a place."
The two of us walk into the base, waving to some of the guys we came with. We walk out a set of double doors to another section. It looks nicer than the rest of the base, and seems to be newer as well. I glance over the doors and see two soldiers' names on each. It seems they put what people call them as well as their last names. We walk to the end of the dorms then head up a flight of stairs. The rooms on this floor seem more empty than the first. Soap stops by a door with two openings.
"You wanna room with me Roach?" Soap questions, glancing back to me as he starts to walk in.
"Ah sure. I'll drop Ghosts stuff at the room next to us."
"Go ahead. I'll write your name down."
With a nod, I walk from Soap and I's room to the room right next door. I see a name already on there, "Archer" I smile as I walk in.
"Roach. You rooming with me?"
"No, I'm with MacTavish next door."
"Ooo~"
"Stop that. I'm dropping off Ghost's stuff. Captain Price took him before he could settle down."
"Damn, but okay. I'm fine rooming with Ghost."
"Good, because he doesn't have much of a choice." I chuckle then sit his bag on the other bed in the room. "Good luck with him."
"Not sure I quite need luck, mate." He chuckles which makes me smile.
When I leave, I put Ghosts name on the wall under Archers. I go back to my room and sit my stuff on my bed.
"Think we'll get along?" Soap questions. He's already starting to unpack.
"Yeah I'm sure. We've made it this far right sir?"
"You don't need to be so formal Roach. Personally, I want to keep things more lax."
"No more formalities?"
"Not when talking to me."
"Oh thank god." I lay down, pushing my bag out of the way.
Soap laughs, "Formalities really bad for ya?"
"No, just... you're almost like my older brother. It'd be weird if I kept calling you 'sir'."
"Huh, yeah. How old's your brother?"
"He'll be turning 32 later this year."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"What month?"
"May. Why?"
"I'll be turning 32 this year too, but in August... Damn, I really am like your older brother."
The two of us laugh a bit. When Soap's done he drags me from the room to go look around. I bet Cal would find Soap entertaining, since they act in similar ways. Only differences are that Soap's Scottish, a soldier, and probably a better friend than Cal could ever be.
