"8' o clock on the dot, don't you dare be late, understood?"

"you know i still don't know how to dance"

"i'll show you how, just be there"

"we'll have the band play something slow, i'd hate to step on your -"

Steve winced as that memory played again in his head.

"Cap? You ok?" Fury asked

It was then when Steve snapped back to reality. He was sat in a dark conference room, a group of shield agents sat around him, concern in their eyes. He nodded "Yeah, sorry Director carry on"

He rubbed his palms together, why were they so clammy?

"Step down for the day soldier" Nick said turning away from him.

"No i'm fi-"

"That wasn't a question Captain" Nick declared.

Steve couldn't win this fight, not today anyway. He got up, grabbed his jacket and was out the door without a word.

Something was up. It had been bothering him for a while but he couldn't shake what it was. Like an itch that he just couldn't scratch.

Getting on his motorcycle, he headed to Bucky's apartment. At this time he felt like that was the best choice, Stark would just make fun of him and Nat would try and get his mind off it.

He needed to talk about it and with someone that knew him inside out.

Bucky's apartment was small, like Steve's, most things in there were vintage, it reminded them of their time, definitely a case of old but young 100 year old man syndrome.

Steve knocked on the door and waited for an answer, he stared at the long winding staircase that ran through the heart of the building, seemed to not have changed since the 40s.

"Are you just going to stand there or are you coming in?" a voice asked, he hadn't even noticed Bucky standing there.

"Oh yeah, sorry" he stepped inside. "How you doin' Buck?"

Bucky chuckled "I'm good, real question is how are you? you don't look so good bud"

Steve took a seat in the kitchen while Bucky made him a cup of coffee.

Steve rubbed his hands on his jeans. "No not really, I don't know how to explain it Bucky but I just keep having these flashbacks of me in the plane, thinking that it would be the last time I talk to Peggy, thinking if I'd done enough"

"Is this because of the funeral?" Bucky interrupted

Peggy's funeral was almost a month ago, it was a solemn ceremony and Steve felt he not only lost Peggy but he lost himself.

"I don't know man, maybe? I know she'd want me to move on but I don't know if I'm ready" he stressed running a hand through his hair.

Bucky sighed "it's hard Steve, there's no denying that, the only advice I can give you is to live your life to its fullest extent, I'm sure Peggy would've told you that" he places a hand on Steve's shoulder. "Are you going to Stark's party tomorrow night?"

Steve shook his head "I thought about but I don't know if it's the best idea".

"Are you kidding? Steve we haven't had fun since 1945, we are going to Stark's party" Bucky exclaimed.

A laugh escaped both of them in that moment but Steve's was clearly forced. "We'll see Buck, but no promises."
