            "Okay. Pass your assignments in English." Pahayag ni Ms. Hermosa. Dali- daling pinasa ng aking mga kaklase ang kanilang mga assignment. Syempre pinasa ko na rin 'yong sa akin. kumopya lang ako kay Nadine.

            "Okay, let's see if you really read your assignment" sabi ni Ma'am. Patay! Paano ba 'yan?Bigla akong kinabahan.

            "Who can tell me what is a simile?" tanung ni Ma'am. Itinaas ni Marian ang kanyang kamay. Oo na! Matalino ka na.

            "Marian." Sabi ni Maam habang tinuturo si Marian.

            "Simile is a figure of speech that expresses resemblance between things of different kinds usually with the use of the words 'as' or 'like'."

            "Very good. Now Natalie, can you give me a sentence that uses simile as one of the figures of speech." Sabi ni Maam habang nakatingin sa akin.

            "I like you." Sabi ko.

            "Seriously? Are you sure?" tanung ni Maam. Sabi mo with the use of as or like kaya sabi ko I like you. Oh? Di ba? Tama kaya ako.

            "Did you read your assignment?" tanong ni Ma'am sa akin na ngayo'y parang nagagalit. Anong problema mo maam? Bakit ako ang palagi mong tinatawag?

            "Opo. Siguro. Ewan." Sabi ko habang napakamot sa ulo ko. Nagtawanan ang aking mga classmates.

            "Speak in English."

            "Okay. Am. I read it Ma'am. Maybe?" letse na English.

            "There it is. Young people nowadays do not value education. They think that having a lot of money is enough for them to succeed in school but that thought is absurd. What if one day, all of your money will be taken from you, then you will realize that you should've value your education more because it can lead you to success." Sabi ni Ma'am sa buong klase. Ma'am. Easy lang. Mahina ang kalaban. Ano daw? Dapat daw pangalagaan ang edukasyon? Ewan. Siguro?

            "But I really don't think that education was really the key to success." Biglang sabi ni Troy. Bleeeh. Ma'am. May kakampi ako. Go Troy. E explain mo sa kanya.

            "Oh! And why do you think so?"tanong ni Ma'am sa kanya with matching pataas taas kilay pa. Hala. Galit na si Ma'am. Matitikman mo ang galit niya ngayon Troy.

            "It's because there were a lot of people who turned out to be very successful even if they didn't graduate college. Take for example the case of Horace Greeley. He didn't have any formal education but he was one of the most influential newspaper men in American History." Sabi ni Troy. Gusto kong tumalon habang pumalakpak. Ang galing talaga si Troy. Gwapo na, matalino pa talaga!

            "What are you trying to say then?" Tanong ni Ma'am.

            "My point is we only need basic education and we can be successful. Anyways, being successful for me is not being rich. What's the purpose of being rich if you're not happy? Therefore, my definition of success is being contented because being contented will truly make you happy." Ano daw? Contented?Wow! Ang mature niya namang mag- isip.

            "Point made clear. But the power of luck is not for all. I could only say that those people were lucky that they're successful but they could have been more successful if they made education their priority."
