"I can't take care of her. At least not on my own Lily."
"Cissy will help you but I cannot abandon my family. I have to go." and with that Lily Potter walked out of the house and apparated back to Godric's Hollow to her husband and 1 year old son.
Severus Snape looked down at his sleeping daughter. He smiled a smile that would rarely be seen unless you were his daughter. He laid his sleeping daughter in her bed and sent an owl to the people who would now be her family as well.
As the years passed Nova Snape looked more and more like her father except for the eyes. The emerald green eyes would always remind him of his childhood best friend and Nova's mother, but even though she was now gone Severus Snape had a small piece of her with him. Always, in the form of their daughter.
