Ashley said talk in the morning so that's what they were going to do but that also meant Colby had to stay at the apartment seeing as how he was stranded with no car or hotel within walking distance.
"You can stay on the couch" Rebecca said pointing to the living room and he nodded
"Where's.." he couldn't say it
"Remi?" she questioned "She's asleep" she said "knocked out in her room with Cinderella playing on repeat for the third time" she said and he nodded
"Can I go see her?" he asked and she looked at him with wide eyes
"No" she shook her head shooting him down instantly "You can't go see her, its gonna be hard enough to explain to her in the morning who you are, you're not going in and waking her up" she refused
"Okay" he nodded accepting the answer, he wasn't going to push, not yet anyway.
It was 9 in the morning when Colby woke up. He looked around at his surroundings as he laid on the couch, there was a TV hung on the wall in front of him, two white end tables on either side of the couch, fluffy pillows that matched the white throw rug on the ground. Overall the apartment was very chic and clean, very much Rebecca's style. Even Remi's toys were in a neat stack in the corner.
He got up as quietly as he could and walked down the hallway and looked in the first room on the left, He noticed the toys and art supplies in one corner and a wooden oak desk in the opposite. It had to be an office and Play room.
He continued on his journey and went to the next room, a nautical bathroom of course.
The next room was obviously Remi's room. It was a Princess themed room. The walls were white but the decor was all different Disney Princesses, even the bed was a castle shaped bed, there were pictures of the mother daughter duo on canvases on the walls. The one thing he noticed though was very obvious, the little girl that belonged in the bed was not there.
He walked into the final room, Rebecca's room and the missing piece from the other room was laying in bed next to her mother. She laid on her stomach with her little head in her hands, watching TV while her tiny feet kicked in the air behind her. She froze when she saw Colby staring at her and slowly backed away and into her mother's body. Colby watched as Rebecca lifted the blankets and let the little girl slip under and hide her face into her neck, Her eyes still closed as this unfolded.. She must have been used to the little girl getting scared to be able to have this routine down.
"Mommy.." the little girl's voice quivered and Rebecca's eyes opened slightly
"What's wrong?" she asked in a whisper and Remi pointed towards Colby and remained silent, Rebecca rolled over and let her eyes adjust to the light before looking at the man standing in her room, it was then that Colby realized that he probably looked like a total stalker just watching them sleep but that wasn't his intention.
"Colby, What the hell?" Rebecca asked as he came into focus and she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes
"Sorry" Colby said shaking his head "I was just looking around and stumbled in here, She was watching TV and saw me.." he explained
"Remi, it's okay.. He's harmless" Rebecca said and Remi poked her little head out from under the covers, her dark brown hair was sticking up all over and she was just the most adorable thing Colby had ever seen.
"Can You make pancakes?" Remi questioned, it was the first thing she had ever said to Colby Rebecca looked over at him with a raised eyebrow
"Uh..Yeah.." he tripped over his words, overcome with emotion that the little girl was actually speaking to him directly
"Ask him nicely and he may make you chocolate chip ones.." Rebecca whispered loud enough for Colby to hear
"Please!" Remi begged with her little hands folded in front of her
"Okay.." Colby said and the little girl jumped down off the bed "but only if you help.." he added
"Okay! I love to cook" Remi said as she jumped up and down and ran out of the room towards the kitchen
"Colby" Rebecca said as He turned to follow Remi to the kitchen
"Yeah?" He asked as he turned back to her
"Don't let her get hurt" she said quietly "and if she tries to puppy dog eye you into giving her the chocolate milk in the fridge, don't fall for it"
"Shh.. Go back to sleep" He said as he shut the bedroom door
