⁂☽ chapter thirty -one ☽⁂
"I FEEL LIKE I'M IN A SPACESHIP OR SOMETHING," CALLIOPE WHISPERED TO TOM, LOOKING AROUND HER SEAT. The group was now already on the plane, seated and ready for departure.
She turned to see Tom, placing an eye mask on his eyes, swiftly moving around to get comfortable in his seat. She watched for a second before reaching over and hitting him on the shoulder, causing him to jump slightly.
"What the hell are you doing?" She whispered harshly. Tom took off the eye mask looking back at Calliope with confusion.
"What the hell are you doing?"
He smiled, winking at the girl all the while, bending down into his bookbag and pulled out a bottle of water, taking a couple of sips to relieve himself from thirst. He offered her some of his drink, her refusing it politely, playing with the sleeves on his hoodie.
"It's six in the morning Calliope, I'm going to sleep. Wake me up later when you want to join the mile-high club."
She scrunched her nose at the comment before sending a punch towards the shoulder, watching him chuckle slightly. Once they settled down, Calliope slumped in her seat, getting bored rather quickly. Tom started dozing off, leaving the girl completely by herself.
She eagerly waited for the plane to take off looking up from her phone every once in a while to look at Zendaya and Donna who sat a couple of seats ahead of the girl.
Harrison was seated behind her, causing her to lean in the aisle, looking at the boy. She watched as he tried to place his carry on suitcase in the overhead compartment. Struggling for a moment, he finally managed to close the compartment, sitting down in his seat with exhaustion. He noticed fleeting eyes and looked at the girl, revealing his dazzling white smile.
"Hey Cal, what's up?"
"The sky. Do you have any gum?" She questioned, sticking out her hand briefly. Harrison rolled his eyes dramatically before sliding a piece. She muttered a quick thank you, before unwrapping the piece of gum from the foil and popping it into her mouth
"You know you could always have a pre-chewed one?" He offered, sticking out his tongue reveal a blue waded up gum, sticking to his tongue and the bottom of his lip. She flicked him off, turning around and silently played with the gum wrapper in her delicate fingers.

THE PLANE WAS NOW ALREADY IN THE AIR, A LOW HULL RESONATING THROUGHOUT THE CABIN. Calliope's curiosity got the best of her, looking out the window to see the land below. Fragments of cloud scatter the earth beneath as if painted by an artistic hand - delicate inflections of the brush spreading white over green. The clouds move constantly, flowing as sheets hundreds of feet apart, yet giving the appearance of one dense layer from the land below.
She fell asleep some time ago, trying to get comfortable in the small space. She envied Tom's ability to fall asleep literally anywhere. Tom couldn't help it. Any airplane felt like home to Tom, he'd flown in them so often. He could curl up and sleep as easily as dozing on the couch.
The engines roared and the winded buffeted, it was his sky-born cradle, rocked by the winds far above the ground. Even as the engines turned, his brain relaxed into dreaming mode, there were thousands of miles to go and all he had to do was let this technological bird fly him there.
Soon enough he had awakened from his nap, glancing over at Calliope who was now reading a book. He yawned quietly, stretching in his seat before rubbing his eyes tiredly.
"Where are we?" His voice cracked, catching the girl's attention. She looked towards him smiling, before looking at the small monitor in the seat in front of her, displaying the plane's location.
"New York,"
He nodded, watching as the flight attendant made her way towards the two, stopping directly at Tom's seat.
"What would you like to order sir?" She spoke calmly, motioning towards the menu that was placed in the pocket of the seat in front of him. He panicked slightly, pulling out the brochure, flipping through the small meal options.
"I'll have the seafood linguine, with a salad on the side please," He said, eyeing down the menu for anything that sounded appealing. She nodded before writing it down on her red notebook, looking back at Calliope.
"May I have the lemon and thyme chicken with a salad on the side please,"
The flight attendant nodded walking off, leaving the pair by themselves. Tom noticed that she removed the hoodie she was wearing earlier, now revealing the yellow blouse she wore underneath, the low neckline revealing a necklace with the letter 'c' on it.
"How was your nap?" He spoke, trying to start up a conversation. He was grateful to be seated next to her, rather than Calliope having to share the space with a stranger, it was nice for her to have a familiar face.
"Good, I watched your movie," she spoke, smiling gingerly. She liked it. The movie was very entertaining to watch, and she especially liked the way Tom talked in his American accent. Throughout the movie, she would find herself laughing along with the humorous script, and secretly replayed Tom's shirtless scene to watch it for a second time on the tiny screen.
"That's good, then you won't be totally confused during filming," He spoke in return, watching as she nodded in agreement.
