Ch.26
I had debated on going out in public for a while now. My father kept reassuring me that I could do anything I wanted and since Hogwarts was about to start again, I decided I might as well go out and do something I haven't been able to do for a while.
I put on a red, blue and white striped shirt with a navy blazer. I threw on a pair of skinny jeans, red, wide heels, and put on some gold earrings and a gold bracelet.
“I'm not sure about this,” I told George as I went into the living room.
“Why not?” he asked looking up from the paper that he claimed was now tainted with false information. Due to my father taking power, I wouldn't doubt it.
“I just don't want people to look at me like I'm the bad person and I know that's what's going to happen. Plus you know that if you go out there with me, it'll be even worse for you and maybe for your business.” he sighed and got up, turning to me.
“Fred and I were thinking about closing it anyway if everything got worse. You know we can't do much business when everyone's afraid to step out of line.”
“I know, I'm just a little nervous about all of this.”
“Let's just go.” he said, trying to reassure me.
“Fine, where are we going first?” I was trying to think positively, but nothing was helping.
“Hogsmeade. After all, you haven't been able to have a fresh butterbeer for a while.”
“That's for sure.”
We apparated right outside of Hogsmeade and I was surprised to see that Elena was there with Sal.
“Abby!” Elena said, giving me a hug and grabbing onto my hand to see the ring. “I haven't seen you for a while and I also haven't had the chance to see your engagement ring.” she started looking at it all over, while I was trying to keep myself from laughing at her interest.
“So, how have you been enjoying your freedom?” Sal asked, a smirk tugging at his lips as if he already knew the answer.
“She still refused to leave the house because she was afraid of people's reactions.” George said, smirks on both of their faces now.
“Of course you would be worried about how others would look at you when you're finally given freedom.” I rolled my eyes at Sal and turned my attention back to Elena who was still awing over the ring.
“You did good George,” Elena said finally, dropping my hand.
“Well I'm very glad you approve of it.” She rolled her eyes at him this time and linked arms with me.
“Now off to our first stop!”
As we walked down the street with the guys a few steps behind us talking, I noticed the attention we were getting. All of a sudden I found myself feeling vulnerable. I was so used to having a mask covering my face and no one recognizing who I actually was. Now, everyone knew who I was and I knew that their attention was on me.
