Ch.29
“I'm not going to let them hurt the students, father. I don't care if I'm not staying in character. You know I can't let that happen to them. I'll just say that we can turn them to our side if we show them that we are better than Harry, they'll believe that,” I ranted as I paced in front of my father.
I had on a red, one-shouldered dress that had rosettes on the shoulder strap. It had a short front and went down in the back. I had my hair up, long gold earrings, gold strap heels, and a gold bracelet.
I had had to step in many times, not only with Amycus, but with the other new teachers as well. So far I had avoided talking to Professor McGonagall, I hadn't been able to face her just yet. Everything was crazy at school and I was having a hard time making sure everything was going okay.
“I understand, as long as they don't become suspicious, it's fine. You need to relax Abigail, you're driving yourself crazy.”
“I know,” I said, slumping down into my chair.
“How about you throw a party at school. This way everyone can have some fun and you can claim you just wanted to have a party. You can even invite George if you want.” he said, trying to come up with a way to stop my constant rambling.
“You're right,” I told him, calming down somewhat.
“Good.”
“I want to have a masked ball!” I said with a smirk as I came up with the whole party.
“Of course you've already become distracted.” he said with a smile as I jumped to my feet.
“Thanks,” I said before walking outside of the room and apparating away to Hogwarts. I landed outside and walked toward the castle that I had loved since I first came here. I walked slowly, taking my time as I looked out at the lake.
I leaned against the stone pillar on the bridge and stood there staring out into the distance.
“You've seemed on edge since you've come here,” I glanced up and looked in worry as Professor McGonagall walked over and stood next to me. “You look pretty tonight, I'm guessing you had a meeting to get to.”
“Yes,” I breathed out, my gaze returning to the sky and not wavering.
“What really happened that day?” she asked, referring to the night Dumbledore was killed.
“They killed him.” I whispered. “He had accepted it though, apparently he was already dying, but that doesn't help the fact that he's gone now.”
“Why? Why did You-Know-Who end up like this?” she told me. That was a question a lot of people wondered.
“He had a broken heart, then he snapped. He was no longer able to contain the darkness.” I told her, she grabbed onto my hand, surprising me.
“That's what causes a lot of things in life,” she said. “Why have you put up this appearance of being evil when you aren't?”
I turned to her, showing a small smile. “It was the only way to save them all. There is one thing I've noticed about life, even though I haven't lived it long. You can't escape fate, sometimes you can't control everything in your life, you just have to go along with it.”
Before she could say anything to me, I turned and walked into the school. I passed hall after all, my thoughts drifting away from it all. What I had said was true. You really can't control fate, no matter how hard you try.
I tried to escape from it all for years when I was younger. When I realized who my dad really was and what he was asking me to do, I tried running away from it all. After a few days after I tried to literally run away from it all, I realized that there was no reason for what I was doing. By refusing to accept what I was meant to do, I was putting more people in danger. You can't run away from what you were meant to do, otherwise, you miss out on the important things that make you who you are.
I went up and entered my room, falling onto my bed and staring up at the ceiling.
The next morning I was woke up early and sent a message to Severus, saying that I wanted to hold a meeting before everyone was sent to their first class.
Before I went down, I dressed in a baby blue and pink floral skirt with a sleeveless pink collared shirt. I added a cream belt, cream heels and a rose and pearl ring. I put my hair up and added some lipgloss before leaving the room.
“Good morning Miss. Riddle,” one of the painting said as I passed it.
“Good morning to you as well sir,” I smiled at the man in the portrait before continuing on my way. I was in a happy mood today, and I was sure hoping that nothing would disappoint me today.
As soon as I entered the Great Hall I noticed that all the students were lined up in rows, all staring straight ahead of them as my father's many followers marched between rows to make sure that no one was doing anything disrespectful. I walked to the front of the room quickly before addressing the crowd.
“I understand that none of you were happy about what was going on this year, but I have news that I hope you will all enjoy. This year we will be having a masked ball, and I've decided that you should all be able to go to Hogsmeade so that you can make sure that you are all ready for the ball.”
Everyone stood there in shock, as if they couldn't believe what I was telling them. Smiles began to light up on a few of the student's faces as they realized what was happening.
“You can all go to Hogsmeade tomorrow and next weekend. I hope you all enjoy.” I stepped down from the front of the room and walked down toward the large door. I could already hear the whispers as I walked away, which filled me with excitement as I realized what had just happened.
As soon as I was in the hallway, Severus was by my side.
“What was that about?” he asked, raising his eyebrows. “Why didn't I know about this?”
“Last night my dad gave me this idea to help get my mood up and stop worrying. So I decided to embrace it.”
“You're having a rough time here aren't you?” I sighed and nodded.
“Yeah. I'm always on edge and I never know when I'm supposed to step in to prevent something from happening, or when I should let it go so no one becomes suspicious.”
“You definitely need this.” he said just as people were being filed out.
“I'll see you later, Sev.”
“Have a good day,” he swept away, his cloak billowing behind him as usual.
I began to become distracted again as I began my usual routine. This was all so boring and for once I was actually hoping for some excitement tomorrow.
