4 weeks later

Lillia gripped a chair. Drayce, Caelum, and D’Hara sat in the room watching her. She hadn’t walked since that day when her and Drayce had been attacked by the lynch mob. Her legs were mostly healed. They still ached, but it was such a small and constant pain she was able to ignore it most of the time. The skin was still raw. She had been drinking a crazy amount of water everyday in hopes that it would help you burns to heal faster. She had scarring, but not as bad as they had originally predicted.

She took a step forward, then another. Drayce and Caelum applauded. “Nice Lilly!” Drayce said.

Her feet were swollen and felt awkward with each step. But it was easy. It felt good to be moving again. She had been in bed for weeks and she wanted to scream. She definitely wasn’t going to leave the castle anytime soon, but at least she could do things for herself again.

“It feels so nice to move again.” Lillia said cracking a smile.

“I can understand that.” Caelum said laughing.

It felt a little strange to have Caelum around so often now days. Instead of being dismissed from the army he was promoted. Now he was basically getting paid to do what he had done since he met Drayce. Keep him out of too much trouble.

She sat down in her chair stretching out her stiff legs. The doctor had said that Drayce’s bone was healed, but he seemed surprised at how fast his ankle has recovered. He told them that it was going to take another couple of weeks for his ankle joint to regain its strength. However, Drayce claimed it felt good as new. He was already walking on it, even though he should’ve been using crutch.

Drayce stood and helped her up. “Don’t get any ideas.” Lillia said. “I’m not leaving this castle anytime soon.”

“Don’t be silly. Of course, I’m going to get you outside. He said playfully. “However, I agree let’s not leave the grounds.”

Caelum snorted. “You better. Then I’d kill you if the mobs don’t.”

Drayce shook his head. “Ignore him.” He mock whispered to Lillia. “He’s a bit grumpy this morning.”

Lillia laughed. “You think any voice of reason is grumpy, Drayce.”

He shrugged. “You’re not wrong. Do you feel up to going to the library?”

Lillia sighed. “As fun as that sounds, I think it would be best if I didn’t overtax myself. I’m still healing, Drayce.”

He nodded, easing her back into her chair. “Do you want me to get you another book then?”

She nodded. “That would be nice. I finished that other one you got me. Its on the bedside table.”

“Well, I’ll see you guys later.” Caelum announced, standing. “I have to go make sure the boys know who’s on guard duty tonight.” He called the men in the King’s Guard ‘the boys’ Lillia didn’t know if that was meant to be demeaning so they knew who was in charge, or if it was a friendly term of endearment. With a wave Caelum was gone.

“I’ll be back later to bring you your book.” Drayce said. He looked uneasy for a second, before leaning down and giving her a small kiss on the cheek. Then he was gone.

Lillia touched her cheek. That was out of nowhere. Her and Drayce hadn’t kissed since he had announced their betrothal. And that was not a pleasant experience, considering that at the time she had been cursing her luck at being betrothed to an idiot. Now…Now things were different. She could feel it. There were feelings between them, but neither of them knew what to do with them. Lillia was too scared to do anything.
