Adrenaline surged through Drayce's veins. His hand shot up and caught the other spindle before he fell. But then, the demons were still there.

There was a flash of Kamasian green, and blood splattered into Drayce's hair. Not the most pleasant shower. Especially the head that fell past him and went crack on the stone below. A moment later, he was being hoisted back up over the railing.

"Thank Non." Drayce said. "I thought I was going to be limping around with a broken leg the rest of the week."

One of the guards raised an eyebrow. "You know the rest of us would be indisposed with a broken leg for at least a month."

Drayce gave an awkward chuckle. "True, true. Thank you anyways."

They threw themselves back into action, dashing back down the stairs, where some of the action had moved. Drayce shoved several down the stairs and ran to finish them, the others followed in pursuit.

Soon they were in the foyer along with Caelum's group who had beat them down there. It was complete and utter chaos. They were a tiny dot of green in a sea of black. Soon Drayce found himself back to back with Caelum fighting side by side as they had done so many times.

"We need to get outside!" Drayce screamed. "Get the threat away from Lillia, Ella and the others!" He felt Caelum nod his understanding and motion to the guards with several hand signals. Drayce stabbed one just to have two more rush at him less than a second later. The sheer number was overwhelming. Drayce, Caelum, and what was left of the Royal Guard created a circle, protecting themselves on all sides. They started to slowly make their way out of the castle, one agonizing step at a time.

A guard closest to the surging mass coming from inside the castle suddenly fell. Breaking the circle. He screamed in terror and pain as he was swarmed by the creatures. Suddenly his haunted screams cut off, and the demons left his maimed body to rot.

The demons surged forward before they could close up the circle again, and they were left defenseless on one side.

It was time for a mostly foolproof plan. One that you can always fall back on. "Run!" Drayce screamed. Everyone bolted, cutting down demons as they went if they could. Drayce and Caelum had mostly cut a path through the door, but there were still demons a plenty to take care of.

Soulless swarmed the courtyard as the small group ran for the gates. Drayce didn't know if he had ever run harder in his life.

"Open the gates!" Caelum screamed at the men up on the wall. "Open the gates!"

In a panic the men ran to release the heavy lock. With a massive creak the doors were open, and the demons followed in a frenzy and ready for blood. In moments the hillside was swallowed by black demons.

"We can't go into the city!" Caelum yelled to Drayce "What else did you have planned?"

"I hadn't gotten this far!" Drayce shouted back.

The demons started swaying as they advanced. "Shalddwell, Shalddwell." They chanted. It was a repercussive sound with so many.

"That was all you had?!" What do we do now?" Caelum exclaimed.

"Well I had hoped the army would have gotten here by now!" Drayce argued defensively.

They kept chanting "Shalddwell, Shalddwell."

Arrows rained down from the wall. Taking several in the head, but it did little. They were surrounded. They were as good as dead.

"Oh Non, we're going to die in the first wave." Caelum said incredulously. Drayce gripped his shoulder. Caelum looked at him bleakly and Drayce nodded trying to convey confidence. If they died, they were going to do it fighting.
