Caelum opened the library door, looking for Drayce. It was the man’s wedding day, but Caelum put aside his hesitation. There were questions that needed to be answered.

He stopped up short and tripped on the edge of the rug when he saw Lillia and Drayce having a moment. He fell into a bookshelf knocking a few books free, that fell on him.

Lillia and Drayce started, looking over at him. He groaned. His shoulder reprimanded him for being so stupid. “It’s fine, I’ll just die over here.” Caelum said as he stood. Lillia rushed over to him.

“What happened? Do you need a doctor?” Lillia asked concerned.

Caelum chuckled. “No, no doctor. I came in and saw you two caressing each other’s faces and such, and, um, tripped.” Lillia’s face turned bright pink. “However, my neck is a little sore, would you rub it Lillia?”

Drayce walked over and slapped the back of Caelum’s neck. “Ow!” Caelum exclaimed.

“How does it feel now?” Drayce asked snarky.

Caelum rubbed his sore and now stinging neck. “Oh yes, that feels immensely better.” He responded sarcastically.

“And it’s called kissing, Caelum. Not that you’d know about that.” Drayce said smirking.

“Oh of course I do. Someday, I’ll meet a girl that loves me despite my choice of friends.” Caelum responded smiling.

“I think you mean because of your choice of friends.” Drayce laughed.

Caelum chuckled and then grew serious. “I was looking for you, Drayce. I need you to come talk to Zathrian. He won’t talk to us. He says that he has a message for you that he’ll only deliver face to face.”

“No.” Lillia said grabbing Drayce’s hand. “It’s too dangerous. He already tried to kill you once, what’s to say he won’t try again?”

“He won’t.” Drayce said. “He’s locked up and Caelum and other guards will be in there with me.”

Caelum nodded in agreement. “There’s important information we need from him. Drayce will be able to get what we haven’t.”

“But he’s an Alchemist. He has powers just like you Drayce.” She said. “Please don’t go.”

“It’s okay, Lily. If he somehow uses his powers, I’m the best person to be there. I’m more powerful than him.” Drayce said reassuringly. He let go of her hand and nodded to Caelum. “Let me change, and we’ll go.”

Lillia shook her head. “You take me for a fool Drayce. I know you intend to never to use your powers again.”

Caelum and Drayce turned back to her. He glanced at Drayce and saw the truth in his friend’s eyes. Drayce sighed. “I’ll be fine Lillia.”

Drayce made his way down the stone steps to the dungeon. Caelum walked in front of him, with a guard behind on the narrow staircase. Caelum held a lantern to illuminate the dimness of the dungeon.

They passed several cells. There were currently only eleven prisoners in the castle dungeon. Most were awaiting trial or execution. The cell on the end housed the criminal they intended to talk to.
