“Marcie, wake up.” Sam said. he was half-asleep. I laughed through my tired state and nodded, “Get some sleep, I’ll watch,” I told him. The last few days where a living nightmare, we lost the four wheeler thing and almost lost our supply of food. We found some bikes as we were walking and rode to the nearest building that didn’t have Zombie’s roaming the halls. I was watching the door that lead into the building, when Sam sat up with a yelp. I looked at him, his eyes where huge and his hand shook. “Next step, get to that stupid Military Base.” Sam sighed, rubbing his face. I smiled and staggered to my feet. I was about to grab my backpack, when something, or someone started to bang on the door. It burst open and a boy stumbled through slamming the door behind him. “Gosh damn it what the hell!” he breathed as he stumbled over to the edge and threw up. I grabbed my gun and held up; Sam was on his feet also and had his gun up. I hoisted my backpack around my shoulders Sam following me. We walked over to the kid as he slid down and closed his eyes. “Shit, Amy.” He growled and opened his eyes. When he saw us though he was on his feet within seconds “hi.” I said lamely.
We figured the kids name was James and he was 16. He had black hair the curled at the back of his neck, and silver eyes. He was looking over the side of the building as he explained how he got here. Apparently, he was running from some Zombies and ran up 20 flights of stairs. A girl named Amy was behind him before she all of a sudden disappeared. He heard her scream and turned around to see what happened, she ran back down, her dog was getting eaten by a few Zombies. She ran back down to try and save him, she was bitten by one and James continued knowing he can never save her. We were quite when he finished his story. “Sorry.” Sam said. He just shook his head and looked at us, “Have any food?” he asked. I nodded, “We were actually about to head out.” I said, handing him a Granola Bar. He took it gingerly and unwrapped it, “Might I tag along?” he asked. Sam nodded, “Have a gun?”
“Of course.” James scoffed
“Then welcome to the team!” Sam said. I laughed and turned around to the fire escape and started down. I landed on my feet lightly and kept a look out for the others. James had a limp but he looked fine, Sam promised to look at him when we arrived at our next stop. “I know where some of those Battery powered bikes are . . . uh, what where they called again?” he said, he looked tired and had a goose bump on his head, maybe from bashing his head while getting away. “Alright, what we need is solar powered stuff though.” I said as we walked down the sidewalk. We abandoned the bikes and decide we would go by foot.
We found the battery powered bikes in a Car Rental place. We drove around carelessly, me and Sam trying to remember how to get back. We drove for a long time while trying to get away. I turned the corner and say a Home-Depo store. “HEY LET’S STOP HERE AND REPACK ON SUPPLYS!” I called. We drove in and noticed a truck, a Dark blue truck sat out in the open. We drove up to it and I recognized it instantly. My hands went clammy and my grip around the handles tightened, making my knuckles white. “You know what, never mind. Let’s go.” I said. Then a low voice yelled something from behind us, “Hey! That’s my truck! Get out of here!” my dad’s voice echoed. My heart stooped and I turned around, my dad was striding towards us, my sister and older brother right behind him. He stopped when he saw me, “Marcie?” he asked. Tears weld up in my eyes, “Kitten?” I asked, getting off the bike. Sam followed, only to protect me maybe. I ran to him and gave him a huge. My sister hung back, her arm was wrapped up. “Did any of you guys get bitten?” I heard Sam ask behind me. “No, I don’t think so anyway.” My dad said. He pulled away and looked at Sam and James. “And who are these guys?” he asked. Sam glanced at me, and then smiled. He held out his hand, “Sam Dare.” He said and my dad took his hand. “James Hudson.” James said with a sigh in his voice. Sam cut in, “And just so everyone knows, my mom was a Doctor. So let me have a look at everyone please.” He said walking over to my sister. “Name?” he asked. She blushed, “Lanie . . .” she said, and let him examine her arm. My dad was eyeing James as he studied my dad’s truck. “Ow!” Lanie snapped and pulled away. “It’s just broken, glad we’re here . . .” he faded away as he banged her arm back up. “We need some boards, metal or wood, just so the bone heals properly and-“I interrupted him, “Sam.” He glared at me, “What?” I smirked, “Your damn awesome.” I said, and headed into the store.
Once we had Lanie and my brother Michael all fixed up, Sam moved to my dad. He was so awkward that when he was done James and I had fallen laughing. He rolled his eyes. “Ha Ha, very funny, he’s your dad Marcie!” he exclaimed, probably trying to make us stop laughing. We didn’t. We sat down and had a dinner full of junk food and chocolate, Sam was talking about something of his family, “. . . And then with one last final breath! My dad stabbed the Zombie and fell. His last words were. . . ‘Shot me!’ and he died.” He said. “Sounds like a Supernatural episode.” I said, crunching on some potato chips. “Sounds to . . . Fantasyish” James said he looked a bit more like a human being then a ghost. Sam laughed, “Aw come on guys, just trying to make everyone laugh.” He said and pulled a Sweet & Salty bar out of the box and opened it. I smiled, “True or False: this all happened ‘cause of the government?” I said, looking at Sam. He opened his mouth, but James spoke up, “Both, they did start this, but they didn’t mean for it to get this far.” He said. We stared at him for a few moments. Then I smiled, looking away slightly. “Hehe, yeah I guess.” I said, and we fell into silence. We heard something shuffle behind us, and my dad was the first on his feet. “We need to get going.” He said, pointing the gun at where the shuffle came from. A dog emerged from the bushes; it was a tall lean black dog. Her eyes are what caught my eyes. They weren’t like any other’s dog I have ever seen. They were as blue as the ocean. I could tell the dog wasn’t blind, but she had a snarl on her lips. I studied the dog for a moment, glancing at Sam, “Let’s check her out.” I said, “How do you know it’s a girl?” Sam shot at me, I gave him a glare. “Come on!”
It was a girl after all; she was frozen by the guns and let Sam look her over. She didn’t have a single scratch on her lean body and Sam shrugged, “I think she’s a an science experiment.” He said, looking at the broken coaler. “Alex Farman, Ally St. name: Midnight. Experiment 501.” He read from the tag. “So what, she’s a robot?” James asked. I shrugged and patted her back, “She feels all fur and muscle.” I said as I ruffled her ears. She barked and growled as Sam looked at her paws, “Alright puppy dog calm down.” He said, his smile widened, “Hey, look at this.” He purred and held up Midnight’s paw. I knelt down and gasped; her whole paw was made of metal. Midnight let a low growl come out before the strangest thing happened; she talked, “Hello Marcie Timpson, Sam Dare, and James Hudson. You were granted a metal dog to follow you in your journey to find the cure. Midnight will only speak if needed, you cannot escape this dog now, and she will follow you day and night. You are part of the governments search for the cure, good luck.” And the dog completely collapsed in Sam’s arms.
Dear Kendrick
We just found the craziest thing in the whole world; a metal dog that can’t ever leave us and talks. I have no idea where you are, but damn it I hope I can find you soon.
Marcie
