I sighed as the drive took forever. Twice, no, maybe five times we were attacked by Zombies. Ammo was wasted, food low, I hated it. "Marcie, stop sighing." Kendrick barked. I knew he was on edge. He always is. I watch as he glared at the abandoned city, I turned my attention to a skyscraper. The building glittered with broken glass in the setting sun. "Do you know what's weird?" Bruce sat next to me, I looked at him, "What?" "That this happened so fast." I nodded, "I woke up, absolutely terrified of school. I then come down stairs, and then my mom. . ." I stopped talking, I probably would have started crying. "And my brothers . . ." I clenched my hands to fists. Bruce nodded, "Some people didn't get so lucky." I looked at him, he seemed so happy. Excited for this whole mess. I almost laughed; he was almost exactly like Kendrick. "And you?" Bruce sighed, "I was the lucky one. I got both of my moms, little sister, and new born brother." I nodded, "That's nice . . . You aren't with them, why?" Bruce looked down at the road blurring by. "The government, they seem to imprison us in shelters, like they were planning this." I looked away this time. "What?" Bruce looked at me. I glanced back at Kendrick, who was fast asleep. "If I tell you, you have to promise not to tell him."
Bruce smiled, and nodded. "I'm listening . . ." "There's this group. They call them self's the KTG. The people who work there are master hackers. They know what the government is doing every second of the day." Bruce interrupted, "KTG?" I nodded, "KTG: Kill The Government." Bruce's eyes widened. "Yeah, it's horrible. Anyway, like you said. This was all planned out." I said that last part slowly. "The leader is Agent Henry, Agent Maranda, and Agent Lilly. They planned KTG and everything else. Ebola, the sickness going around, that was also planned." Bruce sighed, "Why do you know so much?" I smiled, "I'll tell you some more later." I glared at a car that was sitting at the edge of the bridge. A man jumped out and started waving his arms, my dad pulled up to the guy. "Hello!" The man said joyfully.
My dad nodded. I kicked Kendrick; which made him bolt up. "Shush!" I snapped as he started to make a lot of noise. "Who's that back there?" The guy walked over to the back. "Hello. John Harvey!" I saw all the fear in his eyes. Something was up; but then I realized what he said. "John Harvey . . ." I stared at him. He turned to my dad, "Mind if I catch a ride?" "No!" I yelled, making everyone jump, "I-I mean we have enough people . . ." Fear disappeared from the man's eyes; anger burned in those death eyes. "Oh come on! There's room back here." He patted the truck. My dad sighed, "I'm sorry, I have to get my family to safety. I can give you some gas, but, I just don't have room." John Harvey nodded, "I understand." He turned around, and got back in the car. "Is he just gonna sit there?" Sam asked. "I don't know, and I don't care, let's just go." With that, the truck flew down the road.
"I want a deck of cards." Sam said as he twisted his unloaded gun in his hands. "I do too." Bruce said. We were sitting in a hotel room; the building was deserted. My dad and sister were pillaging the kitchen, Kendrick and Alice was walking around keeping an eye out for anything we might have skipped. And Michael was looking for more blankets and pillows.
"Then what the heck do we do?" Sam said, looking at me. I rubbed my ankle, that last attacked hurt. "I don't know, I just want to sleep and shove Aspirin in my mouth." I laid down, and closed my eyes. I heard Sam and Bruce go into an argument about how long it will take for that John Harvey guy to die.
"Why are we doing this again?" a female voice whispered. "Because we are."
I opened my eyes to a dark room, the sound of sleeping people echoed around me. I sat up and looked around, everyone was sleeping, well trying anyway. They looked so comfortable. I lay down on the bed and glare at the ceiling. My whole life, gone. I tried to think of who that voice belonged to. I've never heard it before, but something felt weird about my surroundings. All my senses on alert. "Marcie." I jumped when Kendrick rolled over to glare at me, "You're doing that thing again." I looked at him confused, "What?" Kendrick sat up next to me and we watched the small group. "You start muttering to yourself when you get nervous, or if something is bothering you." Kendrick whispered.
"What happened to your family?" I asked. He sighed, "Hopefully, made it to the Military Base." I nodded, and shoved him. "You're always so grumpy." Kendrick scoffed, "I am not!" And we both tried not to laugh.
The next morning, I was worried about my dad, I knew he had health problems. And because he looked sickly pale. "Hey dad." I sat down next to him as he ate some odd tasting cereal. "Hey girl." He gave me a small smile. "You need some Insulin don't you?" He nodded. "I have some in the truck, but . . ." My eyes widened, "You can't walk huh?" I whispered. He nodded. I jumped to my feet, and started to call everyone in.
"Alright, we need three people to go outside for one reason. To save my dad." James looked at my dad, "You have health problems Mr. Timpson?" My dad nodded, "Nothing too big." Alice shook her head, "It's huge! I'll help." I nodded, "Same. Sam, let's have you tag along. Bruce and Kendrick stay with him. Lanie and Mike, you two stay here." I grabbed some of our guns at hand, "Let's go."
I walked into the sunlight, winter was coming. It hurt, knowing that the Zombie's would increase once sickness started to spread. I pointed my gun around, nothing moved. I moved towards the truck, and reached for the door handle. A grunt, and a hand grabbed my foot, "Dammit!" I shot it, and more gun shots went off. I ran for the truck, threw it opened, and yanked the Jokybox open. I grabbed some needles and two bottles. I jumped out, slammed the door, and bolted for the door. Sam and Alice ran with me, and we three barricaded the door. "It won't hold." Alice squeaked. A crack appeared on the glass door. I pushed up some heavy chairs and a desk. "Come on!" The three of us ran to the kitchen.
"Here." I threw it at James and he started at it confused. "W-what . . ." My dad grabbed it and drew the liquid into the needle. "Okay, change of plans. Try to get my dad walking so we can abandon this joint." I reloaded my gun and looked at everyone. My dad wobbled to his feet, and sighed. "Alright, load up on guns and anything else, get things gathered up. Hopefully they'll leave."
"And if they don't?" Lanie whispered. "Kill them." I smiled, and headed for the room all of us slept in.
"Some are still out there." My dad said once everyone was standing by the almost destroyed glass door. "Alright, the goal is to get to the stupid truck without dying." Everyone nodded. "Sam, Bruce, Kendrick and I will be on the front." I took over. "Alice, Lanie, and Mike will be in the back. My dad will be in the middle, Sam and Bruce will help get Alice and Lanie and my dad into the front. Then everyone else get in the back." James cleared his throat. "And James will also be in the middle, make sure my dad doesn't pass out on us. Clear?" Everyone nodded.
Sam and Bruce cleared the door, and we moved out. We got out and in the truck without being bothered. Which surprised me, what happened to all those Zombies?
Dear Kendrick,
Something's wrong. I can feel it. I just wished I knew what happened, why this all started. And why did we find each other so easily?
Marcie
