Demi

I released a breath as I leant back against the kitchen counter, one hand settled on my stomach as the other held a glass of water which held a plastic baby in an ice cube. I looked up at the sound of footsteps and smiled as my eyes landed on Sophie who waddled towards me.

"Hey, Soph."

"Hi, Dems. Your water not broke yet?" I chuckled as I shook my head.

"Nope, I'm still waiting" I lowered the cup down onto the counter that I was leant back against.

"What's up with you?" I furrowed my eyebrows together as I glanced to meet her gaze. "Oh, come on. I saw the look you gave Nick earlier when he scolded Peyton for kicking" I released a breath and glanced briefly down to the floor. "And don't think I didn't notice your hand on your stomach" I groaned, my fingers running into my hair as Sophie chuckled. "Are you?" I nodded, giving her a look to be quiet as she went to squeal.

"We found out a couple days ago. We don't really want anyone to know yet."

"Don't worry, I'll keep it to myself" I sent her a grateful smile. "This is amazing news though, right?" I shrugged with a sigh.

"I can't get excited about it. Every time I think about it, I just keep thinking about why it's the wrong time. I'm not ready for another baby just yet. I mean Peyton's just hitting his terrible twos and he's such a handful at times. I don't think I'm ready to add another baby to the mix" Sophie sent me a small smile as she placed her hand onto my arm.

"Have you told Nick any of this?"

"He just keeps saying that we can do this and everything will be fine but I don't know if it will."

"There's never a right time to have a baby. Joe and I were planning for a baby but it still happened at the most inconvenient time" I stared down at the floor, twiddling with my fingers. "You and Nick are engaged, Dems. You're a unit. You need to talk to him about this" I knew where she was coming from but there was still fear bubbling away in my stomach for some unknown reason. "Your waters broke, by the way" I lightly laughed as I glanced down into my glass of water.

"About time" Sophie chuckled, her hand giving my arm a gentle squeeze.

"Talk to Nick, Dems. He'll understand" I nodded, giving her a tiny smile.

It had been silent between Nick and I for most of the day. I kept out of his way for the most part. I didn't want his family to see any tension between us. Thankfully though, it was easy to keep away from him. Joe and Sophie wanted their baby shower to include both men and women as their friends are a huge mixture of both, so the men went off to do their own thing. Peyton fluttered between us both but he spent the majority of his time with me. He loved the attention that he got from the ladies, he can be such an attention seeker at times. I just hope that doesn't become a downfall or a negative as he gets older. I just hope that doesn't get worse once he gets a little brother or sister because I don't think I could ever handle them both, especially not alone.

"Dems?" I jumped from my thoughts at Nick's voice. "We're home, Baby" I glanced briefly at him to meet his gaze. "You were right lost in your thoughts then" he stroked a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Sorry" Nick lightly chuckled as he shook his head.

"Don't worry about it, Gorgeous."

"Where's Peyton?"

"That's how lost in your thoughts you were, Dems. You never even realised I got Peyton out of the car."

"I'm sorry" Nick chuckled again, shaking his head as he twirled a piece of my hair around his finger. "I-I'm also sorry for snapping at you earlier. You're allowed to care, Babe."

"Why don't we go inside?" I nodded, gently smiling to myself as Nick helped me climb from the car. His hand was settled on my back as he slammed the car door shut and followed me into the house, closing and locking the door behind him. "You want a drink or anything, Babe?" I shook my head as I took a seat on the couch, patting the space beside me.

"No, I'm okay" I fell silent as Nick took a seat beside me, his hand moving to settle on my thigh. "In all honesty, Nick, do you really think we're ready for this baby?"

"I don't think anyone is ever fully prepared for a baby whether they were planning for it or not" I stared down at my hands as I played with my fingers. "Demi, talk to me. What's going on in that beautiful head of yours?"

"I'm scared."

"What are you scared of?" I released a breath, my fingers running through my hair as I tried to think of how to word my next sentence.

"I'm scared that this baby is gonna ruin everything. I'm scared that Peyton's gonna change. I'm scared that I'm gonna lose you but most of all..." tears began to gather in my eyes. "I'm scared that I'm never gonna love this baby" Nick shuffled himself towards me on the couch, his arms locking around me as I snuggled myself into him. He pressed a kiss to the top of my head as he ran his fingers gently through my hair.

"This baby is going to change things, Demi, and it may have an effect on Peyton but you're not gonna lose me, Baby. I'm not going anywhere. And I'm sure you'll eventually love this baby" he moved his hand to settle on my stomach, my lips twitching ever so slightly at the corners. "I love you, Baby. Don't ever be scared of talking to him again, okay?" I nodded, cuddling myself more into him. A comfortable silence settled around us as we just cuddled up together, deciding to switch on some random movie.
