Demi
My leg nervously shook as I sat on the hospital bed, waiting for Dr James to arrive so we could start the appointment. I'm officially 20 weeks. We're officially halfway there.
"Baby" I glanced at Nick as he placed his hand on my thigh to stop me from shaking my leg. "Everything's gonna be okay" he pressed a kiss to my temple which helped to calm me down just slightly.
"What if something's wrong?" he didn't have a reply for me. I turned my attention back to the ultrasound machine that was sat in the corner of the room. I ran my hand along my stomach, the little flutters starting up.
"Gummy bears fluttering around" I glanced to Nick as a wide smile spread across his face. Baby has been fluttering around a lot over the last couple of weeks but it just isn't strong enough yet for Nick to feel.
"They're trying to tell their mommy to stop panicking."
"Well, it's never going to work" he rolled his eyes and lightly chuckled as he leant to press a kiss to my temple. "Until they're here, they're healthy and safe, I'll continue to panic."
"I know you will, Baby" I settled into him slightly and took in his warmth as his arm draped around me. My hand was pressed on my stomach and I smiled as the fluttering continued, the feeling will never get old. Dr James stepped into the room with a warm smile.
"Hi Demi, Nick. How are we both feeling?"
"A little nervous" Nick pressed another kiss to my temple.
"That's still completely understandable, Demi, but we're halfway there, halfway to welcoming your little one" a wide smile formed on my face as I glanced down at my tummy. "We're going to start with your weight and blood pressure and then we'll get to checking on baby" I nodded and pushed myself from the bed so that I could step over to the scales that were by the far wall. "Okay, Demi, that's perfect" I stepped off the scales and began back towards the bed, Nick instantly took a hold of my hand. "You still having any morning sickness, Demi?" I shook my head as Dr James wrapped the blood pressure cuff around my arm.
"No, I just keep getting heartburn and the occasional headaches but they aren't anything too bad."
"Heartburn could mean baby has a lot of hair" I playfully rolled my eyes causing Dr James and Nick to chuckle. "Did you have heartburn with Peyton?" I shook my head.
"No, he didn't have much hair either."
"There you go then" he lightly smirked. "Your blood pressure is a little high, Demi, but that could just be down to nerves. I may just check it again before you leave if that's okay?" I nodded in understanding, glancing over at Nick who gave my hand a gentle squeeze. "Are we finding out baby's gender today?"
"My sister wants to throw us a gender reveal party so could you pop it in an envelope for us" he nodded with a smile.
"As long as you promise there will be no peaking?"
"There will be no peaking" he lightly chuckled.
"Alright, Demi, lift your shirt up for me" I lifted my top to just below my breasts to reveal my 20 week belly. I'm growing relatively quick and I feel like this pregnancy is just flying by. I can't believe I'm already 20 weeks pregnant. I suppose working and running around after a toddler in my free time is making this pregnancy fly.
I pulled from my thoughts as Dr James squirted some gel along my stomach. I placed my hand behind my head, glancing up at Nick as he kept his grip tight on my other hand. I ran my thumb along the back of his hand and lightly smiled as he glanced down to meet my gaze. A wide smile formed on his face and my heart fluttered.
"You felt much movement, Demi?"
"Yeah, it's like little flutters. Why is there something wrong with the baby?" my heart rate increased.
"No, Demi, baby's fine. I just don't think it'll be long before you feel real kicks" he turned the screen towards us so we could see our little baby.
"You want to have a quick listen to the heartbeat?" I nodded. The room was suddenly filled with the most gorgeous sound. The galloping sound of my baby's heartbeat. I found myself growing emotional, my eyes welling up with tears. I can't believe I've made it this far. After the miscarriage last year, I thought the possibility of me having another baby was slim to none. I thought that my chances of conceiving and carrying a baby where limited, but the little baby on the screen proves otherwise. "They're perfect, Demi" I glanced up at Nick who was staring at the screen with a wide smile. He only glanced down once he obviously felt my stare."I love you" my mouth tugged into a wide smile.
"I love you too" he leant down to press a kiss to my lips, my tears soaking into the kiss. He pressed his forehead against mine for a moment and we just took in that moment together, listening to our baby's heartbeat.
"So, I can see baby's gender perfectly, are you sure you don't want to know?" I glanced over at Dr James who had moved the screen away so that we could no longer see.
"It's tempting but we're positive. We only have to last until Saturday."
"I'll get it written down and place it in a separate envelope for you, okay? I trust you'll give it to your sister" I rolled my eyes and lightly chuckled. "I'm going to print these off and then I'm going to check your blood pressure quickly, okay?" I nodded, glancing back at Nick who was helping to wipe the gel off my stomach. I stared down at him with a smile.
"You're so sweet" he rolled his eyes causing me to giggle.
"I love you" I nodded and lightly ran my hand along his cheek as he leant to press a kiss to my lips. "And I love you too" my heart burst as he leant down to press a kiss to my stomach just causing the flutters to start up all over again.
