*Saturday* (homecoming day)
I woke up in the hospital that morning around 10am. Demetry's condition was slowly improving. He hasn't had to have any emergency surgerys in the past 4 days, so that was a good thing. He still hasn't woken up, but I guess that's expected.
I got up from the uncomfortable chair in the waiting room. Today was homecoming so Crysta was gonna pick me up and then we were going back to her house to get ready. I went to take a step so I could go get a drink from the cafeteria but I tripped over somebody. I heard a groan and turned my head to see Dustin.
"Dustin what the hell are you doing on the floor?! And where did you get the pillow? And blanket?" I questioned.
"First of all I'm okay thanks for asking. And I'm laying on the floor because its more comfortable than those chairs and mom took the couch. And I know one of the nurses so I got the pillow and blanket from her" he told me. I opened my mouth to ask him if he could get her to get me a pillow and blanket too but he spoke before I could ask. "And if I see her I'll ask to get a pillow and blanket for you too."
"Good. And I'm okay too, thanks" I said sarcastically.
"Where are you going anyways?" he asked me.
"Down to the cafeteria. I'm thirsty" I told him.
"I'll come with you" he said getting up.
We walked down to the cafeteria in silence. Dustin was supposed to be a chaparone for the dance tonight but decided to just stay at the hospital. Daniel was also supposed to be going with his girlfriend but still hadn't decided if he was going or not. Everyone was telling him he should still go but he just didn't know if he wanted to now. He asked his girlfriend, Anne, if she would mind if he didn't go and she told him she would understand. I was still a little hesitant about going myself. I was so affraid something would happen with Demetry, good or bad, and I wouldn't be here.
"Des quit stressing about going to homecoming tonight. Everything will be fine. And I'll call you every hour to update you when your gone" Dustin assured me. This made me feel slightly better but the nerves were still there.
"Okay" I mumbled. We got down to the cafeteria and I gotsome coffeeand walked up to the counter. I paid then sat down, waiting for Dustin. He came over about a minute later and sat down across from me.
"At least try to seem a little excited about tonight. Please" Dustin pleaded.
"I can't. I'm scared something will happen and I'll be gone" I told him, a tear rolling down my cheek. I looked down at the table.
"Hey, Des, look at me" Dustin said. I looked up at him.
"Demetry is strong. He's gonna make it through this. He's gonna be okay. And has anything happened this whole week? No. You know why? Because the doctors here are excellent and Demetry is so strong. Quit freaking out because everything will be okay, okay?" Dustin said.
"Okay" I mumbled as Dustin wiped my tears from my face.
We walked back up to the waiting room to see Crysta waiting for me so we could leave.
"Well I'll see you before you go to the dance. Be careful. I love you" Dustin said being quiet due to the fact everyone else was still asleep.
"I wanna go see Demetry before I leave. I'll be right back" I told Dustin and Crysta. They both nodded then went and sat down. I took a breath and walked back into the Critical Care Center.
I walked into Demetry's room and tooka seat in the chair next to his bed. Demetry really looked a lot better. He wasn't connected to as many machines and some of the cuts on his face were going away.
