Childhood Stranger

Playthings: Part 1

Danny was struggling in the bathroom with his bandage wincing when he turned too far, it had mostly healed though it was still tender and at risk of being infected. After struggling for long enough he wandered out into the room holding the bandage and rubbing alcohol.

"Do you mind?" The hunter timidly asked Sam who looked up when he came in, the youngest Winchester nodded gesturing for him to come over. Sam got to work gently brushing over the wound with a cotton pad soaked in rubbing alcohol taking notice of the winces as he muttered an apology.

"How's it going with the search?" Danny asked through gritted teeth needing a distraction.

"I was talking to Elen and she doesn't have anything. I've been searching every database there is but no ones heard from Ava she just disappeared." Sam let out a sigh as he began to press on the bandage. "What about you?"

"James looked into it for me and told me that they're still investigating it, but no they haven't found anything." Danny told him to sit once the other was finished thankful that it was over. "Though if it counts for anything he told me that he would give me a call if anything comes up." A smirk set over the hunters face at the mention of the police officer, when Danny had still been in hospital James had shown up with a bouquet of flowers wishing him well and handing over his number saying it was for emergencies though Sam could tell by the way he looked at his friend it was more than that. That was the exact reason that Dean had instantly hated the officer as soon as he stepped foot in the room, that as well as texting and calling James had become a new past time for the hunter.

"How is James anyways?" Sam asked teasingly as he leaned back in his chair an amused smile on his face as the other hunter blushed looking away, behind him the door opened. "You two seem pretty close."

"Is this Danny's detective boyfriend?" Dean asked though his voice was forced as he handed the two coffee.

"He's not my boyfriend." Danny was quick to deny in as he absently shuffled some papers around as some kind of distraction. "We're friends, he's keeping an eye on me that's all."

"Yeah I bet he's keeping a real close eye on you." Dean sneered at him taking a sip of his coffee as the hunter in question glared at him across the table.

"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" Danny asked angrily as he leaned forward ready to defend himself against his friends, Sam was quick to try and defuse the tension.

"As I was saying Elen did have one thing there's a hotel in Connecticut that's had two freak accidents in the last week."

"What does that have to do with Ava?" Dean asked as he began to drink his coffee.

"It's a job. I mean a lady drowned in a bathtub and then a few days ago a man falls down the stairs head turns a complete one eighty which isn't exactly normal you know?" Sam told the two as Danny thought it over. "Look it might be nothing, but I told Elen we'd check it out."

"You did?" Dean questioned making Danny roll his eyes, what was his problem lately.

"I think we should check it out tomorrow we get some sleep and then start the drive out." Danny told the two as he moved to one of the beds flopping down on it, he needed a distraction and neither one of them were taking this hunt away from him.

The next morning the three of them set off in a tense silence arriving at the hotel fairly quickly, Danny stormed ahead of the others grabbing his bag and heading inside. Things between him and Dean had only gotten worse since last night, the hunter couldn't take the jabs at James and himself. The hunter really thought that Dean was different then everyone else that he'd come across, of course he'd taken shit of hunters constantly for being gay but he never expected it from his friend. The foyer to the hotel was old fashioned, but the hunter enjoyed it. A pretty young woman sat behind the desk and smiled at him as he went up.
