You are HAPPY! You take one more deep breath of the cool breeze before you let any thoughts register in your mind. Now to find Tyler.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He had to be around camp somewhere, right? You looked around a bit, but the only people you saw were the early risers getting ready to go hunting or whatever they please.
You started walking towards the edge of camp thinking maybe he had wondered a distance off, and that's when you spotted him. He was sitting at the end of camp right before the forest starts to get heavy. He was sitting on a lone log, facing away from you. You stopped dead in your tracks a couple of feet away from him, thinking maybe you should just leave him alone, but he stops you by dropping his head and saying,
"Sometimes I want to just run. Away into this forest. Thinking maybe everyone would be better off without me." You start to open your mouth to stop him but he continues. "But then I remember. This is where I belong. These people. I helped them, and I need to continue to help them. They need me still."
Finally, he stops and brings his head back up facing the trees. You walk over and sit down on the log next to him, but not too next to him. You don't even look at him. You only give a hard glare into the trees looking at the leaves fall down and the birds fly around. Your heart hurts. It hurts for him. It hurts from him. You don't know what to say, so you stay silent.
"I-um," Tyler starts then brings in a deep breath. He looks over at you and you dare to look at him. Your eyes greet him and you are already entranced in his mocha brown eyes. "I'm sorry for what I said. I didn't mean it. Sometimes I just feel myself getting bad again. That's when I go back down to the trench and he meets me there. I don't know why I do it but I do. But instead of going to the trench, I took it all out on you and I'm sorry. In a way, you did save me. I didn't go down there. I couldn't leave you." You bit the inside of your cheek and look away at the trees.
"I thought you didn't care about me. That's why I did it. I thought that I had finally found someone like me and then you said all that and," you slowly shook your head. "and I don't know. I felt like I belonged somewhere for a second." Your eyes begin to swell with tears.
"You do belong here! No matter what you think. You belong here with us. I mean, did you see how devastated Josh was when this whole thing went down?" Tyler replied with a little smirk that made you feel tingly inside.
You regain composure and look back over at Tyler who is still staring at you. He brings his hand up to your cheek and wipes a tear. His hand slowly travels to your mouth and around your chin. He gently traces your facial features almost mesmerized by it. His fingers travel over your small nose. They surround your lips. They tickle your eyebrows. Eventually, his hand makes its way back down to your chin. His eyes flicker from your lips to your eyes. He brings his hand towards his face, showing your chin the way. You lean in and start to close your eyes as he does the same. Your lips are millimeters away from touching when you hear someone yell your name from camp. You open your eyes quickly and meet Tylers. You look away blushing.
You rush to stand up and say, "I better go," and walk away as fast as you can without running. You can feel the red rushing into your face as you think back as to what almost happened. You felt so close to him and yet you were trying to stay away. You wanted him but you didn't know if he felt the same for you.
When you reach the top of the hill at camp you see Josh looking around frantically until he sees you. He rushes over to you and pulls you into a tight hug.
"I've been looking for you everywhere. I got scared that maybe you..." Josh started but couldn't finish. You know what he meant though. You would probably be on some sort of watch for the next couple of weeks because of the stunt you pulled. It's okay though. Because you can feel how much Josh cares for you. "Where were you anyway?"
"I was down by the forest with Tyler. We were just kind of talking," you replied. Your face got red at the thought, so you drowned it in Josh's shirt hoping he wouldn't notice. You lifted your head up again and rested your nose on his shoulder. He relaxed his head in the crook of your neck. You felt his warm breath travel down your back. You could feel his eyelashes flutter against your neckline. You loved the feeling of his arms around your lower back and the feeling of comfort from him, but the entire time all you could think is how bad you wanted Tyler to be hugging you like this right now. You wanted him to be there. To stay with you. Like blood.
Josh released after a while. He looked into your eyes and grabbed your shoulders. "You're okay," he whispered. "You're okay." He let go and gave you a small smile before turning away and walking back into the bustling camp. You breathed a sigh of relief that he didn't suspect anything. You turned back towards where Tyler once sat to see him quickly walking past you back into the camp. As he walked by you got a whiff of pine trees and bonfire smoke, a smell you've learned to love, but he also had a scent of peppermint. It made you feel homey. The smell was quickly replaced by the regular air and normal scents of the day.
You look up into the bright blue sky, taking in all the beauty. Glad that you are here, right now. All of a sudden you hear a rustle that makes you drop your head and look around. In a tent not even 5 feet away, you notice Jenna peaking out. Her blue eyes piercing into yours. Staring into your soul. She saw what had happened. Whether to act on it or not, was still a decision she was making. But the idea that she now held something over your head like that was chilling.
