She swallowed hard, reaching out for a tissue.
"The twins and Bruno are from another father, my mother was very often out after my dad left and found actually really quick another man and shortly after got pregnant".
"Let me guess, you're truely not happy with the new man on the side of your mom, am I right?", I asked as she paused.
"H...He... beats her often..", she stuttered.
I nodded slowly, writing it down.
"I know it's hard for you, but I please you to close your eyes reminising, and telling me about it".
She whipped away her tears, closing her already swollen eyes.
She began.
"Mom, where have you been the night?", I asked my mother as she came home in the morning, obviously drunk, again.
Since my dad left us, the past year has been rough as never.
Carla and I had to take care of the household and our little brother Dario while our mother is almost every night away, strolling through some clubs and bars.
She drinks too much, I thought, looking at my sister who was thinking the same in this moment.
She rolled her eyes walking away with little Dario in her hands.
"He doesn't have to see this", she mumbled angry, getting into the kitchen, preparing another bottle of milk for him.
He simply won't stop crying, we both are exhausted but the baby has priority.
Mother stumbled past me, not even looking in my direction, straight into her bedroom, slamming the door shut.
"Valerie, please go to sleep as well, I'll clean the rest of the floor", Carla said from the kitchen.
"Carla left a few years later as the twins were two years old, she couldn't bare it seeing mother that bad, getting baby's from a dude who beats her up and doesn't care about us".
Valerie closed her eyes one more time and went on with her story.
About one month later our mother came home with a man.
He looked a little scruffy and smelled like he hasn't took a bath in weeks.
Carla and I looked at them, confused but hopeful at the same time.
Maybe he will do mom good and will take care of us too.
We really wished, everynight we would've knelt on the floor in front of our bed, praying that this man is the one mother deserves after she was left all alone, and to our family.
We only got a quick glimpse of him that day, they disappeared right into her bedroom, and was gone several hours later as I knocked the door, asking her to take little Dario because it was one of those days he wouldn't be still.
Mother unlocked her door, looking dizzy at me, smiling.
She carefully took Dario in her hands, lowering her eyes examining him, then me.
"Come on, I'll make dinner for us", she simply said, calling Carla from the storage room, she should bring some items for cooking.
We haven't seen her that pretty happy in weeks.
Just another month later she announced to us that she was expecting a child.
Probably from this scruffy dude we saw her disappearing every now and then for the past weeks.
"Rafaél is coming for lunch tomorrow", she told us.
Carla just got even more upset, balling her fists looking at mother.
"You're only out for party and now expecting another child while you're not even caring about us three now?", she yelled.
Mother remainded silent, looking at us.
"Say something, from your gaze only, we won't get fed".
She was right, we haven't been eating that regular since dad left, and it got worse the last few month.
Mother lost one job after the other because it seemed like she doesn't care at all.
The only thing that mattered was this dark haired dude.
