Some time went by and it was again very late and again high time that Valerie was supposed to be here already.
I heard soft laugher on the street as I peeked through the curtains.
Catching her standing under a streetlamp talking to a man.
They got touchy and all this romantic stuff.
"See you", she waved a goodbye after they kissed passionately.
The man disappeared in the dark of the night and I wondered who this misterious guy was.
It all made sense to me now that she's leaving the house all dressed up and good looking - surely it wasn't for a waiter job, no one is glaming oneself so fancy when they serve food and drinks to people at night. Not to mention her skin tight dress she was wearing.
The other side of me was worried about her, and didn't wanted to let her hang out with some dude I may never seen before. What if it's a drug dealer or a pimp - getting her back into prostitution or something worse than that.
I shook my head, it is not your business Amanda, she has her own life and is responsible for it, for the good decissions and the bad. My inner voice was right, but still, I will keep an eye on her just to make sure she's alright.
Let's face it or not, she's still very young and doesn't own good knowledge of human nature.
The door creekily opened as she stepped inside, having a huge grin on her face.
I was already standing in the doorframe of the living room, eyeing her as I was about to leave.
"Work was so stressed up tonight", she groaned.
"Would you mind to come tomorrow again?, Beth is still out of order and I have to take her shift".
I know damn sure she was lying to me and I was not okay with it.
I raised my eyebrows.
"I mean if you don't mind", she whispered under her breath.
Okay, this game can play two.
"Sure why not", I smiled at her, watching her taking off the shoes.
"Don't mind me asking but aren't you a little too good looking for a waitress?".
"What do you mean?", her expression frowned and confusion spread across her features.
"Well, you're leaving the house with a load of make up set in your face and a skin tight dress like you'd going to a party", I chuckled, gestureing with my hands.
"Oh, I just like to look good, you know for the tip, it makes it easier".
I nodded.
"Goodnight Valerie", I said closing the door.
I can't believe she is lying to me and can keep such a poker face at the same time.
The Next Evening
"Take care", I waved her as she rushed down the stairs.
I quickly made my way to the window, peeking down on the already dark street.
She greeted the mysterious man and they kissed deeply again.
I couldn't help but find something familiar in the way he moves and gestures.
Maybe I'm just interpreting things into it this person that are not here at all.
He took a firm grip onto her butt as they walked away with arms intertwined.
I quickly rushed to the wardrobe, grabbed my jacket and the key she left for me and followed them two.
I couldn't help but being sure Michael is this dude.
Swinging the front door open, I looked around into the night where the shine of the streetlamps end. No one in sight.
"Fuck it", I hissed under my breath.
I noticed a light got turned on in Valerie's flat and rushed back up.
"Aunty, why did you leave?", Laia asked me standing in the hallway, rubbing her sleepy eyes.
Damn I totally forgot the kids, thank god nothing happened even though it was just a short time.
"I.. uhm... I just...", I scratched the back of my head staring at her.
I began to smiled, reaching out my arms as she fell into them.
She gave me a tight hug. "I just brought the rubbish out", I told her, nuzzling my face into her soft hair.
"Don't leave us alone... promise it", she whispered.
"I will never ever leave you two", she backed off, releasing me from her grip.
Eyeing me with glossy eyes and a shy smile that was resting on her face.
She nodded.
"Come on, I'll bring you back to bed", I said, lifting her up.
I spent a few hours cuddled up next to her, Lucia slept well and didn't even notice that her sister strolled out of the room.
I caressed Laia's hair until she fell asleep, and so did I too.
"Amanda?", Valerie's voice ripped me out of my sleep.
She gently touched my upper arm. "Are you awake?", she asked whispering.
A few curls of her brushed my cheek. My eyes swung open.
"Yes", I blinked, slowly removing my arm from under Laia's body.
I asked her what she was doing with the man I saw her recently. But she simply denied it. Work was her only excuse no matter how determined I set my questions on what I saw.
I must be dreaming, she told me.
But I couldn't think of anything else but this.
On my way home I walked past the posters from Michael again, and got an idea.
If she's not telling me, I simply ask him.
He must have sold our once together home, I drove by it a few month ago and other people were coming out of it.
So I buy a ticket for his stupid show and surprise him backstage, hopefully to get a few minutes to talk to him.
