I got welcomed by a great smell of waffles and honey.
Slipping out of my shoes I followed the sweet smell down the hallway into the kitchen.
Michael stood on the stove pouring another dose of dough in the waffle maker. The steam hit his face as he closed the cap, he backed off and shook his head.
I chuckled, "Men and cooking".
He turned around staring at me. His hair got all curled up around his face because of the heating steam. And oh good god he looked so fine with it.
Although it was messing up his face and hairstyle he still looked super hot.
"May I help you somehow?", I asked.
"I'm almost done", he responded quickly, turning his attention back to the waffles.
So I sat on the counter and grabbed a plate for myself, ready to start dinner.
It was a great idea to make waffles, even though I like it more for breakfast but hey, no one can actually deny them no matter what time it is.
He knows how to cheer me up. I love him so much.
"Oh and darling...", I started as we finished our dinner.
"I met Martin on my way and he gave me your wallet", I laid it on the table.
"Anastacia found it, he said".
He suddenly got completely motionless and stared dead at it.
He held his breath, then looked at me.
I couldn't tell why he got so nervous and irritated.
"Is everything alright?", I asked.
"Aren't you happy about it?".
"Well.. uhm.. I", not even one clear sentence came out of his mouth.
Small sweatbeads started to form on his forehead and on his scalp hair.
"Thank you", he said dry, took the wallet and stood up.
I actually wasn't pleased with this, so I simply spoke the words that was set on my mind since Martin talked to me.
"Who is Anastacia, Michael?".
He frowned.
"I don't know", his eyes never directly met mine as long as we had this conversation.
I rolled my eyes at his reaction, what 's the problem, just tell me?
"Martin said Anastacia gave it to him, so she has to know you two, why else should she gives him your wallet?".
Another eternity past by as he finally spoke.
"She's a bartender", he sighed.
That simple sentence was enough for me, I smiled.
"Ok", I said. I wouldn't wanted to know more, only this.
I shrugged my shoulders.
His eyes widened at my responds.
"That's all?", he asked, "A simple 'Ok'?".
"Yeah, why should I be upset about it, you told me and that's enough for me".
I chuckled and left the room.
Later I grabbed the plates from off the table and washed the dishes before I changed my clothes and got to the couch.
A nice evening in my sweatpants, yes.
"I'm taking a bath", I heard him shout from the bedroom and with this closing the door shut.
A few hours later I woke up, I must have fallen asleep on the couch.
I switched on the lights and the TV right off.
Grabbing my blanket I made my way upstairs.
I really was hoping that Michael already finished his bath so I could cuddle up next to him. But instead of a warm hug in the bed I heard him talking on the phone.
I stopped right in front of the bedroom door.
Should I really eavesdrop?
'I better not disturb the call', I murmured to myself and turned on my heels.
"I warn you Martin, don't you ever do this again, I don't want her to know", his tone got upset and a little more agressive.
I'm actually not the person who is snoopy but this little moment caught my attention.
I stepped an inch back and closer to the door.
Barely breathing, I got very nervous of what might come but that was all. He probably hung up.
Strange.
The next day I received a message from Valerie, she mentioned that she wasn't feeling well and canceled the appointment for the day.
I didn't knew at first what to do with my time off since I got no other clients for the day.
Michael himself got up early as he works still as a psychologist and today was one of those days that he treated a client.
I decided to clean the house and finally finished the book I was reading for the last few weeks.
It was already afternoon as I started to cook myself a lasagna.
I prepared a little more so I could surprise Michael with it by bringing it to his workplace.
We work in the same building, his office is just one floor higher.
Closing the door of my car, I proudly walked with the food in my cotton bag towards the building.
From afar I saw Valerie leaving the building through the entrance door.
Didn't she sent me a message to cancel our appointment today?
I was confused, so I looked for my phone to check the message box.
Just to make sure I'm not going crazy or else, forgot something important.
Ok, at least I'm not completely drifting off, I told myself.
But before I could turn my attention back to the sight of Valerie, she was already gone.
I shook my head, maybe she was visiting someone, or was looking for something?..
