"So..." You drew out the word. "Mutual crushes?" You flushed a red colour.
"This won't change anything right?" He asked.
"I hope to God it doesn't," You said.
"Then mutual crushes," He agreed.
More silence.
"I love you," He reminded you. "As friends,"
"I love you more. As friends,"

"Sooo, how'd it go?" Kim linked arms with you as you walked into the theatre the next day.
"How'd what go?" You asked, genuinely.
"The whole Robert thing, silly!" She smiled.
"Oh, uh, mutual crushes," You blushed.
"Mutual crushes?" Kim repeated, looking at you.
"What? What's wrong with that?" You faced her.
"No! Nothing," Kim shook her head.
"Oh, okay," You looked down.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"Yeah, I think so," You nodded.
"You sure?"
"Yeah," You replied, though you weren't actually sure.
"Well, if you're sure," Kim gave you a small smile, then a hug, and then skipped off.
"Hey, how'd it go?" Lauren and Kendall ran up to me.
You looked past them to look for Robert. He was on the other side of the theatre talking to Joey and Jon. Were they talking about you? If so, what were they discussing?
"Y/N?" Lauren playfully slapped you on the arm.
"Sorry," You shook your head, snapping yourself out of your thoughts. "We decided to stay mutual crushes," You tried to push past them.
"Okay, that's okay," Kendall nodded.
"Yeah, uh huh," You tried once again to push past them, but instead Jaime and Angela came running towards you.
"Mutual crushes," You said before they could ask you anything, and finally pushed past them.
You ran over to one of your favourite, unproblematic friends who hopefully had nothing to do with this ordeal. He was sitting in one of the seats, scrolling through his phone.
"Hey James," You smiled, taking a seat next to him.
"Hey Y/N, how are you?"
"Exhausted. And confused,"
"Confused? What about?" He looked up from his phone to look at you.
"Oh, don't worry about it. Life, life's confusing,"
"I hear ya," He nodded.
"What do you do when you think you're ready for something but you're too scared to actually to do it in order to find out if you're ready for it?"
"That's tough," James nodded. "How much do you trust this thing?" He asked you, using his fingers as quotation marks.
"A lot," You nodded.
