i didn't want to write a quarantine chapter, mainly because i know most of you guys read this to escape the thoughts of quarantine, but i'm kind of in the middle of a minor writer's block so i though something's better than nothing, right?
You walked out of the bedroom, holding Diane in one arm, while ruffling your hair with the other.
"Lo?" You called.
"Right here," She mumbled sitting cross legged in front of the coffee table just staring at an unfinished 1000 piece puzzle.
"You okay?" You asked, setting Diane down.
"Feeling down today," She replied simply. You instantly felt bad for her. She didn't deserve to feel down, especially in such a mess of a world like this.
"Want my help with the puzzle?" You asked sitting down across from Lauren who looked sleep deprived. She had a half empty cup of coffee off to the side, but it didn't look hot anymore.
You looked at your phone. The time was only 9:30am, so she must've been up for a while.
She shrugged in response.
"How'd you sleep?" You changed the topic.
"I didn't sleep," She chuckled lightly, but she wasn't really smiling.
"Babe, do you want to talk about anything?" You furrowed your brows, starting to get worried.
"No, not really," She replied, finally looking at you. Her eyes were bloodshot and her hair was messy. But you liked her hair messy. It really enhanced her curls, it was beautiful.
"Okay... is there anything I can do for you?" You tried, as Diane crawled into her lap.
She took a deep breath, but there was no response.
"Alright, just let me know," You began to stand up.
"Wait! No!" She said quickly. You looked at her. She was fiddling with her fingers nervously. "Stay?" She looked up at you.
"Of course," You smiled weakly at her. She looked awful, but still also looked absolutely perfect. "Just let me know when you want to talk about anything, okay?" You told her.
You sat on the couch, patting on a spot next to you for Lauren to sit. She obliged, getting up from the floor and sitting next to you. You put an arm around her, as she buried herself into your chest, making herself comfortable. The two of you didn't say anything, you just stroked her hair lovingly, embracing each other's presence. Diane decided to bury herself between the two of you.
You paid close attention to Lauren's breathing, subconsciously matching your breathing with it. You took this moment to really acknowledge how grateful you were to have her in your life.
"I love you, you know that?" You said softly.
"Even though I'm being the biggest bitch right now?" She muttered.
"Of course. You're not being a bitch, you're having a bad day. I love you no matter what," You told her, kissing her on the head.
"I love you too, forever and always," She said shakily.
You hugged her tightly for a few seconds.
"I just miss everyone. This sucks, this all just sucks," She says after a while.
"I know, I know it does," You reply.
"Like I just want to see my friends and family again," She whimpers. "You're great and all, and I love you, and I'm so thankful I'm quarantined with you out of all people, but I'm just so over this,"
"I know," You nod understandingly.
"I just feel down all the time, especially today. I just don't have any motivation," Her voice breaks as she lets a tear fall. "And I'm ten times more emotional than usual," She wraps her arms around you.
"Well I have some good news for you," You tell her, smiling.
"What? What is it? I really need to hear it," She sat up, facing you, startling Diane.
"Diane may not like it, but I know you will," You chuckled, opening your phone. "I found another foster,"
"No way," Her eyes lit up.
"I know it doesn't completely fix this, but at least it's something,"
"This totally fixes this! You know any foster puts me in a better mood," She gasps.
"Her name is Meerkat, here, I've got a photo of her," You smiled, opening your phone to show her.
"Oh my gosh, she's precious,"
"Isn't she?" You replied. "So what do you say?"
"What do I say? Fuck yeah! When do we get her?"
"As soon as they can drop her off, really," You shrugged.
"I want her now," Lauren pouted, scooping up Diane.
"On it," You laughed, dialing the number.
"I'm so happy to have you in my life," Lauren planted a kiss on your lips. "I don't know what I'd do without you,"
"I don't know what you'd do without me too," You joked, just as APR picked up.
Lauren could only laugh and watch sweetly as you spoke on the phone.
