Farren became aware of warmth surrounding her, she was lying on something soft. She realised she could not still be in the wild, the wild was never warm or soft. She slowly opened her eyes, bright light flooded into them, making her squint. A warm hand landed on her shoulder and the ground dipped by her waist.
"Farren?"
Her eyes adjusted to the light. Aragorn's face came into view, he was clean but worry still marred his face. She jerked up into his chest, wrapping her arms around him tightly. He responded to her touch immediately, holding her tightly, gently rocking them on what Farren now realised was a white bed. Her shoulder was completely healed, only a faint scar ran along her right shoulder blade.
"Arwen told me what happened," he said into her hair, his chin resting on top of it, "It was stupid Farren, reckless, you could have died. Did you really think you could hold off nine Ringwraiths?"
"She had to get Frodo to safety, he was more important than me" she suddenly pulled back looking at him, 'He is alright, isn't he?' Aragorn nodded, gently explain how it had been close, but Lord Elrond had managed to heal him in time.
"Then you came riding into Rivendell, an hour later, covered in blood with Nuallan screaming. If Le...' he trailed off, 'If the elves had not caught you, you would have split your head open". Farren searched through her murky memory, she could have sworn that the elf who had caught her was familiar, something about blue eyes. Aragorn looked conflicted when he mentioned that she had been caught by someone, angry, happy, relieved and confused all at the same time.
Farren swung her legs out of bed. She was dressed in fresh clothes, a purple gown, fading to silver at the tips around her bare feet, the material shifted around her as she stood. Aragorn was next to her in an instant, but he did not touch her, he knew she was strong enough and stubborn enough to hold herself.
"So how is Arwen?" Aragorn smiled, a faint blush creeping up his neck. Together they walked out of the room. Rivendell always amazed Farren. It was beautiful, not the cold grandness and darkness that Mirkwood had been. Aragorn filled her in on his journey with the other three hobbits, they had made good time, especially when Elrond had sent horses to them.
"Epona!" four voices called from across the garden, Farren was suddenly tackled by four small hobbits, she was glad to see Frodo, his face bright again. "We were so worried when we heard' Pippen said, 'Never seen Strider so scared. He made us ride for three days, only stopping twice! We even missed second breakfast!"
Farren laughed lightly, she noticed Aragorn looking across the garden again, he shook his head slightly, but it was not directed at her. Farren whirled to look at the clump of trees where Aragorn was looking, her instincts told her someone was standing there watching them.
"Ahh, my old eyes must deceive me. I haven't seen you in 60 years" an old voice came from the steps which she and Aragorn had descended moments ago. Farren looked up with the other hobbits, who seemed surprised to see the old hobbit looking down at Farren, with affection and excitement.
"Bilbo!" she cried, racing up the stairs, dropping down to hug him tightly. The old hobbit laughed hugging her back, his old wrinkled hands holding the back of her neck. 'It has been far too long, my old friend'
"Aye lass, but it's seems as though the years have been kinder on you than me. You look barely a day older than you were 60 years ago" he guided her away from the four younger hobbits, looking confused at their relationship, 'Do they know you as Farren or Epona?'
"Epona"
Bilbo settled on a white bench looking out over the trees and buildings. "You have a bad habit of falling in with us Baggins", she laughed replying quickly that it was to keep them alive. "Yes, we do seem to get into too much trouble, don't we? Gloin is here with his son Gimli"
"Gloin! With the son that Legolas called a goblin mutant?" Bilbo guffawed, nodding his look suddenly turned to one of confusion.
"Speaking of a certain Mirkwood elf. I believe he left with you. The last time I saw you he was on the back of your horse. Where is the prince now?" his voice held a questioning tone, but he was watching her for her reaction as if he knew something she didn't.
Farren looked down at her feet, "I haven't seen him in 45 years"
"Do you want to?" she whirled on him, "The Prince always had a soft spot for you, even though you were surrounded by a company of dwarfs". Farren crouched to her knees, taking Bilbo's hands in her own, looking up at his aged face.
"I do not know. He hurt me, more than I'd like to admit"
"Have you told Aragorn?" She shook her head,
"It's not like Fili, Bilbo. I trusted Legolas with my life, not my heart. I just want him to explain why he left so suddenly"
'Perhaps he will' smiled Bilbo, 'Now come and help me with the ending of my book. You can fact check it as you were there' Farren helped the old hobbit to his feet, smiling happily. She felt warm and safe, for now, everything was right. She could only wonder how long that bliss would last.
Her answer came very soon, in the form of a messenger inviting her to a secret council meeting to discuss the ring.
