Legolas' hand brushed Farren's as the two of them stood silently looking out over the plain where 10,000 Uruk-hai marched towards the walls, the very air seemed to tremble and vibrate under their heavy footsteps. A clap of thunder was the only warning they go before the rain began to lash down upon them.

Farren focused on keeping her feet grounded and breathing steady, no one spoke or moved on the walls of Helms deep...well almost everyone.

"You could have picked a better spot" Gimli grumbled trying to see over the walls, Farren heard rather than saw Legolas' amusement. Aragorn quietly made his way up to the three of them. "You two have good luck, let us hope it last the night"

Aragorn's hand fell onto Farren's shoulder, "Your friends are with you Aragorn" Legolas said not taking his eyes off the approaching army.

"Let's hope they last the night" Gimli mumbled, earning an elbow to his shoulder from Farren and a reproachful hiss of his name.

Aragorn bent down to whisper in Farren's ear, only elven ears would pick up his low warning "Stay close to Legolas. You are stronger together" Farren nodded as her brother turned to stalk further down the line.

The lighting illuminated the army before them, even Farren felt herself holding her breath and she had fought in the battle of the Five Armies let alone the mere farmers around her. Aragorn began to yell advice and encouragement in Elvish as he paced.

"What's happening out there" Gimli growled jumping fruitlessly to try to see, Legolas and Farren exchange a mirthful look.

"Shall I describe it to you? Or would you like me to find you a box?" Legolas teased. Gimli's gruff laughter mixed with Farren's higher chuckle caused Legolas' smile to grow wider as they returned their gaze to the army before them.

The Uruk-hai began to ban their spears and weapons together creating a din, Aragorn drew his sword rain and thunder dancing around him. Farren drew her bow and knocked an arrow patiently waiting for her brother's orders. To her left, an arrow flew, from who Farren did not know but it struck the Uruks-hair in the neck causing him to fall face-first into the mud. Silence ensued.

"Hold!" Aragorn screamed in elvish, growls of anger resounded out of the night. Farren kept her arm steady feeling the tension rise around her. As one the orc army charged towards the walls. Following Aragorn's orders, Farren nocked her bow again,

"Their armour is weak at their necks, and beneath the arms" Farren called in elvish just before Aragorn's' odder to fire came. Farren's arrow sailed into the neck of one orc, it screamed and fell as a second arrow from Legolas hit the one to its left.

"Did ya hit anything?"

"Yes, Gimli we are accomplished archers" Farren replied finding herself smiling despite the situation they were in.

She heard a yell from behind her and the men began to fire along with the elven archer in the courtyard below. Orcs fell before them creating a line of bodies, but those behind simply stepped over their fallen comrades.

Farren released arrow after arrow, ducking quickly as orc archers began to fire at them and the ladders were raised. Re-strapping her bow on her back Farren drew her sword slicing into the orcs assailing the walls, she felt Legolas at her back, bow still raised firing arrows rapidly. She had lost Gimli in the confusion but could hear his battle cries so she assumed the stout dwarf was managing. She caught sight of her brother a little way away slicing through anything that came at him.

"Legolas, two already" Gimili yelled.

Legolas turned a boyish glee in his eyes "I'm on seventeen"

Farren laughed, "Does everything have to be a competition boys?"

"Ah I won't be outdone by a pointy-eared elf" was the answer she received.

Farren found herself moving away from the pair fighting towards where one ladder was attached to the walls, kicking the orc climbing up it off she scrabbled with the cold wet chains that balanced the ladder to the wall. With a huge shove, she pushed in backwards causing it to topple back into the army of orcs below. "Good thinking" a voice called to her, turning she saw Aragorn copying her with a second ladder. She smiled at him, their hands briefly clasping before orcs again assaulted them.

Farren was darting around the walls when she caught sight of a column of orc making their way up the ramp towards the gates of Helms Deep. She grabbed the nearest archers, "Look to the gates! Look to the gates!" arrows turned and began to rain upon the orcs from the sides while rocks pelted the shield roof they had.

Farren suddenly felt a hand, far larger than any man's or elves' garb her shoulder tossing her backwards, almost over the wall, the orc advanced on her, swinging its axe down towards her, Farren knew that her armour would not protect her organs from being crushed. She caught the axe with her blade forcing them into a pushing contest, unfortunately, gravity was very much on the orc's side. Bringing her foot up to kick the orc between his legs, Farren moved her sword to her left hand regaining her footing as the orc advanced again. Her right hand reached to her belt grabbing Legolas' dagger and plunging it into the orc's neck.

However, her luck seemed to have run out as the orc fell onto her almost crushing her against the wall. Excited grunts from below caused her to turn her head, she could see an orc carrying a torch running at the walls. The crushing weight of the orc was suddenly pulled off her and the dead orcs face was replaced by Legolas' concerned one.

Pushing herself on, Farren spun to try to see the path the torch-carrying orc was taking, to her horror she saw that the path lined up with the sewage grid. "Legolas shoot him! Shoot him!" she screamed as the elf had his bow in his hand and was easily the better archer of the two. She heard Aragorn echo her instructions.

The Mirkwood Prince shot the orc twice, but it only stumbled, Aragorn's screams were now directed to anyone with a bow. A third arrow pierced the orc, but it was far too late as it jumped out of sight. Farren made the split-second decision to shove Legolas, hard, away from her.

She caught Legolas wide blue eyes as the world exploded around her.
